There seems to be a problem with the amount of data that I have downloaded during this month according to my data usage on client zone and what I know I did? Have anybody experienced this yet, I am the only user on my line and was not even at home during the day:wtf:

Hello

The case of the missing data ;)

Anyone know your password? I can try send you a log of the times you were connected, maybe a computer programme was running in the background?

You can send me a PM with your username.

YES! thank you for bringing this up.
I'm currently with Mweb but have given notice and last month I took out a capped package with Afrihost to test there connection and I will say I am very impressed.... HOWEVER, around the 20th of the month when there was 1.5 GB left I switched back to Mweb and stayed there.
At the end of the month I got an email from Afrihost saying I over extended my cap by 512 MB and it would be taken off January's cap, which they did take it off my free 1 GB thus leaving me with 10.5 BG for January.
I was going to complain but thought maybe just an oversight so said nothing.

This month I only switched over to the AfriHost account on the 18th January at 6pm, logged onto my account and it did say I still have 10.5 GB left.
I logged on right now and it says I only have 7.1 GB left ???
According to my records I should have 9.5 GB left as I've hardly been on so far.
AfriMan, WTF is going on ???, if this is how AfriHost treats their clients, I'm out of here before I even start!!!

I'm really sorry to hear this. We can definitely investigate this for you.

You must also bear in mind that we can what we call "accounting packets" from Telkom, who are ultimately monitoring your bandwidth consumption. Sometimes those packets arrive only at the end of the session. If the session ends without a user end command (including the end packet) then we sometimes have to wait hours and sometimes days for the end packet to arrive, which allows us to calculate the bandwidth usage.

But let's investigate and see what could have happened here. Drop me a PM as soon as you can :(

This makes sense, Telkom probably sends Afrihost RADIUS accounting packets, if they not receiving those updates no way for them to know your usage, they will probably back calculate when they receive the most up to date RADIUS info.

However this points to a problem as those updates should come through a couple of times a minute

Ideally they should, but we've also been experiencing problems with this, where Telkom sends us incomplete data packets, so we have to cater for that in the system. So if the session ends and we don't get the accounting packet, it's very difficult for us to know. However the data does usually arrive eventually, but it does kind of look confusing to the end user :(

We do audit our logs as best we can to ensure that, from a test pool, we feel the reports are accurate.

Really sorry about this, international can be a bit slower than local - but these results are too slow :(
Have you contacted our Support team about this at all?

Ok.
Nope, it's been a bit on the hectic side.

I dropped my line from 10 to 8, just to ensure that my snr doesn't make a difference.... and nope, no difference.
I will open a ticket just now.
(The intl speed below is a heck of a lot more than I'm getting on Google map/driver downloads/whatnot).

I've sent you my ticket number via pm.
I have to say though that a response time of (now, 9h and counting) is not acceptable.

They finally replied after 14 hours :/

All they did (now) was fix my sync rate. Don't worry about it though.

Sorry about the long turnaround. Something that we're still working hard to improve. I think in general we're getting there, but still lots of work to do.

Have replied to your PM as well, so will wait for your next update :)

Hiya all,

Experiencing high latency on my (10mbps) connection... International streaming is stuttering badly.
The issue does not appear to be exchange related. Refer latency in later hops as well as packet loss.

Your trace doesn't look horrible, except for the timeout.

What are you getting in terms of throughput? Have you done any tests on saix.net and compared to Telkom Guest acc?

Got some awesome news. Looks like the work on the network last night was to add additional IPC to the North network. We're seeing a significant improvement in shaping compared to what we've seen of late

I'd still like to encourage everyone to use late night off-peak hours for torrents and downloads. It would be great if we can really make the most of this new capacity so that everyone gets there fair share.

Having said that ... Gentleman, start your engines!!!!

Would this alleviate the issues I've been experiencing with packet loss and poor streaming? Youtube was constantly switching up and down from 720p to 144p.

This is an issue I have been having for a while...

I have done testing from 10mb down to 4mb and the packet loss was still there. Telkom cant see any noise on the line or issues. Could this be related to the afrihost issues?

Looking excellent from Cape Town.

We haven't seen a big impact on realtime services before the new capacity has been lit up. Have you tried our network testing app at all?
