I think we're too busy planning some bigger awesomeness. Yeah, I miss those little promos though. Who remembers "Data Burgers"? :)

I have a bundle deal with afrihost, R797 per month, the exact line rental portion i would not know, but i think the standalone line rental for 40mbps is quite high, R749 per month

In terms of area, I'm about 20km outside the Cape Town CBD in the Tableview area
About 3 different exchanges in that broad area, all of them now VDSL enabled AFAIK, dozens of MSANs

w.r.t "type of area", well, whole bunch of wannabe jersey shore posers hang out in our beach bars, fair amount of vagrants roam the streets, but i have a postcard view of table mountain from the beach and when i tell people i live in the "northern suburbs" i am told no no it is the "western seaboard" which apparently is less "kommin", and not nearly as snobby as the "south"

..... obviously i interpret "type of area" weirdly :P

LMAO!! I fell off my chair at this part :D

Type I mean't residential or other, incase I didn't know the area, but I know Tableview, and Doodles quite well ;)

Your interpretation was just fine and very accurate :D (still lolling).

Anyone here in Royal Ascot on VDSL? Telkom keeps telling me I can only get 4mbps and I'm still waiting for installation, but I'm really hoping it can be more than that by now, that 40mbps+100G package is really absurdly well priced compared to the usual non-package where you keep the line with Telkom. Don't care how they do it, as long as I can get it :)

If you send me the number on a PM i can check what the exchange and DP limitation is on Telkom's system and if you're connected to an MSAN :)

Is the performance on your 1GB free account what one should expect when signing up for a capped account?

I've been pretty happy with it - seems like its legitimately unshaped with pings to EU servers around 180ms.

Very broken. 500ms latency from PE and .5mb download from a possible 32mb :(

Telkom have confirmed that there is an issue with some of our IPC links being down. Funny thing is I'm seeing similar reports from other ISPs, so I'm not sure how that is possible. We'll have to see what Telkom have to so say :(

Yup seems most ISP's .. just tried my Telkom ISP account and same thing. Think Web Africa is also affected.

Using my Afrihost 3g now... and it flies :)

Can't watch anything tonight - XBMC just buffers and times out. Useless! Pinelands exchange is stuffed and overcrowded is my guess. No SciFi channel tonight for me, resorting to a good DvD - Die Hard 3.
