Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Yes, it is super slow :( I have to pay FNB and top up my account there in order to browse the internet. Not happy about that as I do pay AH and I am not making use of their service because it is so slow.

PM AfriMan.
Afrihost has been running at ABSOLUTELY FULL speed this weekend and since the 28th, so there has to be something possibly wrong from a Telkom side or the Shaping rules have kicked in for you.

I'm not getting any joy on news.internet.co.za. Alt.Binz connects, but nothing downloads?

I don't know that news server, Astraweb is fine. Same with news.afrihost.co.za

I switched to capped yesterday. Didn't notice that it would only change end of the month.

So, still on uncapped and probably throttled to 0. news.internet.co.za and news.afrihost.co.za is the same thing if I recall correclty.

Just tried news.afrihost.co.za. Dead as well.

We don't throttle uncapped accounts anymore, since moving to MTN. We normally shape to prioritise real time services, but we haven't been for a few days and until sometime this week. So there is no priority on the network for NNTP, you should get line speed if you're not running other services at the same time.

Drop me a PM so we can see what's up :)

Bryn26 correct, Bursty-dude ....... congested exchange?
Oh I presume you have PM'ed Afriman,

With the above values you should have a very unstable experience, the results show your copper and connection is on the brink of collaps.
They will need to lower your connection profile to get you stable.

From your previous posts, looks like the current sync is fluctuating, which is causing you to get intermittent speeds. It may be a fault on the line or a congestion issue at the exchange. We'll need to have Telkom take a look :(

Anyone know if issues are being sorted? Last week my router blew in a thunderstorm as well as a network port. I had a spare router, still could connect to the internet......been getting disconnects often so trying to find out if the line is affected or if it's on Afrihost's side. I do get the max 100KB when doing a speed test, using a 1MB line.

Test conducted on 16 March 2013 01:54:57 PM

Download Speed: 3117 kbps (389.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 775 kbps (96.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 246 ms

This is with a 10 mb line!!!! This is the speeds that I have to deal with ever day. Hardly ever does it go over 5. With my FNB I get like almost full speed. I am going to cancel.

Sorry to hear you're getting poor speeds. General reports at the moment are that speeds on capped and uncapped are awesome, so we'll need to check why you're not getting the same performance.

Please drop me a PM so I can have this looked into :(

If the network was dropping connections, we'd see a lot of complaints, but at the moment performance is rock solid. Drop me a PM and we'll take a look :(

Just to report some good news for a change, finally both Telkom and Afrihost both seem to be firing on all cylinders, and my download speeds are now 3.5M on a 4M line. First time I've seen that since December last year!!!

Please no one change anything..........

Seems like latency is back tonight...
