Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

I think Afrihost has become too greedy. They signed up as many new clients as possible without having the capacity in place to deal with the demand.

International speeds are ridiculously bad.

Time to leave?

If it is not the one thing it is something else. First GTA5 then windows now apple. every-time someone brings out an update you will get s**t performance from afrihost.

I don't really remember Windows having the same impact as the Apple updates. I think there is a difference in how the distributors allow caching, but also the user behaviour. Apple users are probably (assumption generalisation alert) downloading updates to each individual device rather than burning a DVD and updating each device manually. Also, Apple doesn't allow local caching, so each failed download has to be restarted completely.

Now I'm not following...

We shape our Uncapped users to ensure that we never go beyond a comfort level which allows enough headroom on the network to avoid congestion. However, when an unshaped service like Apple gets extremely high demand like yesterday, it becomes difficult to maintain that headroom, and when it peaks then it produces latency on the network.

Drop me a PM if you're still not sure and I'll do my best to explain :(

Not good. Signed up for 50gb Capped on Afrihost - not getting out with our 30gb WebAfrica. Did a speedtest just before I switched and WebAfrica was 8.4mb on our 10mb line. Afrihost jumps between 0.8 and 7 on the speedtest but after a few tests is seems I'm getting around 3.5mb out of it. Not a good start... :( Might need to hold onto the WebAfrica account for now and see how it goes...

Am not sure if you're understanding what's happening to most of us. The latency is fine at most times, yet we get sub par speeds.

My capped account performed really well in the beginning, but the past 2 weeks I am not getting full line speed. So something is cooking somewhere.

If you look at my previous post where I included my past speed tests you will see my ping is always stable, even to the UK, yet out of 10 tests 1 of them will perform close to line speed.

This looks like it could be exchange related. If you say hop 1 & 2 are local, the 3rd should be your exchange - which outputs 800ms+ :(
Could you drop me a PM with your info so I can have a better look at this?

Resorted to using the Mifi as the line is dead again.....

Mifi Speedtest:

Now THAT is what this ADSL line speed should be like (like it was in January), not the crap I have been sitting with for the last 3+ weeks.

Line back again, let's see how long it lasts this time around.

And no feedback from Kyle since 10-04 this morning, despite me sending 2 other emails.

Switching the PC off early again, this has become a joke......
Speedtest shows 6.5Mb/s to MTN Business, but international sucks gorilla danglies. Youtube vids buffer at 240p.

Good night:mad:
