I am on a bundle, 50GB capped data and 2mbps adsl line

I received my bonus. 16gb of data.

Pricing
Bundled

50gb data and adsl R297

unbundled

100gb capped data R199
ADSL line R165
Total R364

A R67pm price difference for an extra 50GB for 6 months(300gb)

Top up data from Afrihost 10gb at R50pm

I'm unbundling next month.

Don't forget to all factor in the mystery bonus value. It may not be much, but I think it makes a difference as well.

In the end we try to make all our deals more or less the same value - so the only decision is what suits your needs best :)

Somebody fixed something last night at around 12AM :p

Still lots of packet loss but now back to the levels before friday evening.

Yes, we rebooted the IPC completely, which resolved the problems causing latency and packet loss previously. You shouldn't really be seeing any now though :(

So from what I have read so far - I'm staying away from afrihost until the "capacity issues" have been resolved.

I think it's difficult to make a decision when we're experiencing some issues. I can promise you that this is not what we experience most of the time. Generally our clients have a good experience at a great price.

Before you write us off, sign up a Free GB and try out our network :)

I will def do that, but not being guaranteed a "unshaped" connection is a problem..
Just get the capacity issues sorted, like now, and well all be happy :)

It is definitely unshaped (we're talking capped here) but capacity issues are causing symptoms that may feel like shaping.

Once we upgrade, we'll definitely all be happy - me more than anyone :)

Has anyone experienced really high ping recently?

I'm on the 10MB 50GB capped bundle, and everything was fine up until a few nights ago. Some sites take a while to load.

We say very high latency yesterday due to a partial IPC outage. This was resolved last night and latencies are now reporting normally.

Are you still seeing problems on your side?

I haven't checked today. Will do so later this evening. Thanks for letting me know. Netflix was fine last night, although I've never had issues even with high ping.

Should be perfect again. But run a few traces to make sure of what you're seeing :)

Update from CPT...
My connections is currently running at 50% of typical speed. 4mbps on my 10mbps line.
Like others have said AH runs perfectly well when there aren't waiting on Telkom (i.e.: IPC upgrade).
Can't wait.

We're pretty confident that we'll have the upgrade on time - but I can promise you that calls are being made and emails are flying to make sure that we don't slip on our side. We're 100% ready for Telkom to make the upgrade live :)

The high latency is now gone. But there still is low-level packet loss occurring, which I've been seeing for quite awhile.

There may be some packet loss due to demand, which causes some brief spikes in contention while the shaping system compensates for increased demand.

There is a further upgrade planned for the North network, we're awaiting the ETA for that.

What I find interesting is the regularity of this packet loss - almost every 4 minutes.

Do you get the same on any other accounts (on another network, for example)?

Aw shucks I don't know. Frankly am not too bothered about it. Just curious more than anything. Your explanation about the system compensating for increased demand makes sense because I find that as the latency picks up, so too does the frequency of the spikes (packet loss).
