I also ran into this issue when I created a free account for a new user a few days ago. That page was displayed on the desktop and mobile devices attached to the router.

Afrihost support had me re-typing the username and password into the router to no avail.

Gave up and signed on for the free account at WebAfrica which worked flawlessly right out of the gate.

International a little buggered perhaps?

It's usually ~200ms.

Videos are not even playing. It maxes out at 25KB/s.

I didn't notice any issues with international when I tested NNTP on Friday. Was getting very close to the maximum that my line can handle with traffic from the EU.

Ping does seem high for UK< I would usually expect between 160ms and 200ms :(

12PM on a Saturday and torrents are maxing out under 20kbps. What is going on? I thought the testing shapping was only for uncapped?

We're definitely not shaping Capped or Business. It's possible that Auth problems have caused errors in classifications. We generally have to disconnect misclassified users on our side until we see that traffic returns to what it should be.

Scanning all other AH client posts in different threads it is surely noticeable that all this, shaping, latency, snail download speeds is happening after the MTN buy out:confused:

There has been no change to how things work since we announced the MTN deal. Since the deal is still under review by the competitions board, it will probably be a good while before MTN become operationally involved with us. However, even then, this will only in terms of overall company performance, and I've bee assured that Afrihost decisions are still going to be held be existing management.

We've instituted some new systems to prevent authentication "storms" which basically cause our servers to get slowed down by thousands of authentication requests within a few seconds. Probably related to the authentication problems we had on saturday morning. Usually you can just switch of your router for 30-60 seconds and then reconnect.

Sorry about that, sounds like you had the same issue as previous poster. You should really only need to reboot your router, especially if the initial wave of authentications is complete.

I have changed my line to a 4mb line from 2mb in client zone. But I dont see any notice to say that it is in progress or attempt failed. Still shows 2mb line. Can you confirm on your side that the line will be upgraded?

If its the line itself, it will still say 2Mbps line until Telkom confirms via their daily report that the upgrade was effected. However, you will get SMS notification that the upgrade was done :)

Ok thanks. I see it will unbundle the line. So I hoping to bundle it again before 25th to take advantage of the discount? Would that be possible?

As long a you bundle before the 25th, it will take effect in the new month in terms of overall pricing.

Is anyone else having issues with international?

I have a 10mb line, and local speedtest is a solid 8-9mb down, 17ms pings, 0.89mb upload. International on the other hand is erratic and I'm geting speeds of 1-3mb in spikes, pings are good though, 180ms.

Its just annoying because video streaming is buffering often and usually its a constant HD.

Unfortunately you're in the same boat as all of us regards AH international.

Sorry to hear that. We can definitely run some tests on our side to see if we can see what's behind what you're experiencing. For now, can you post some of your diagnostic test results so I can take a look?

I'll post some speedtest results when I'm back home this evening.

Ah, so its a known issue. Are they at least working on it?

Yes. Witness the wailing and gnashing of teeth by streamers (and downloaders) on the different AH threads here on MyBB. But I'm confident AH will sort out their network, in due course. In the meantime I remain laid back and patient.

Hey AfriMan,

I have been using my Afrihost account the last few days and for the first time in weeks we've struggled to stream 480p content in the evening (during the day it seems perfect) on a 20mb VDSL line. My WA account didn't buffer once in about 3 weeks of use. Of course it may be coincidental but what are the tests I should run so you can have a look? Traceroutes?

Thanks!

Still no news from telkom regarding line upgrade. Should I submit the request again? Hasn't greyed out the option so it is bit confusing.
