Same here, and cannot connect to the news server either.

Got the capped account to avoid precisely this issue. So much for unshaped.

/stumbles off looking for those backup Telkom account details

EDIT:

And Telkom hits a home-run. Supernews instantly went from not connecting, to maxing line speed.

Did the same test and got the same result

My evening streaming went well up until 8pm on the dot... then constant buffering and low quality on 20mbps vdsl. Starting to get frustrated with the constant issues and AH not acknowledging their issues

I moved to Afrihost Capped services to get a constant unshaped experience.

This has been the ****test experiance I have ever had with my 4Mbps ADSL. All blame is just shifted to Telkom, even though it is obviously a Afrihost side shaping or server problem.
Every single night when people get home from work my ADSL goes to ****. Every evening I get 1.35Mbps on a 4Mbps line, and I do not have a congested exchange.

I have the business uncapped at my home office and a capped account in my home. (10mb and 2mb) They are both borked. On the uncapped you can barely stream YouTube and on the capped it refuses to even connect to a usenet server. The moment I switch to my backup Telkom account, everything is at MAX line speed.

From another thread... dropbox.co.uk

Afrihost still dropping packets at every hop!

Thanks man! :D

Just dropping in here quickly, looks like the site is resolving on my end. Can you test please?
No further info from the escalation, but I'm sure someone hit the fixed switch :)

Drop me a PM if you're still having issues connecting tomorrow morning.

Did the same a couple of days ago, but now I don't call my Telkom account a backup anymore, it really performs well. And decided to cancel Afrihost for now. Maybe the new year will bring better tides.

Afrihost, what is going on with my connection?

I used to get constant HD on my Netflix and now I'm damn lucky if I even get 480sd

What is going on?

I'm in Cape Town, Sea Point, on 20mb line. Capped account so I should be able to stream what I want, when I want coz it's a capped offering otherwise why am I paying a premium for a capped account?

I've asked the same question a number of times and never really received a satisfactory answer.

Well that is not acceptable.

@Afriguy I'd like an answer to my post please. I'm sure you will advise me to log it, but I'm technical enough to know when I'm being taken for a screwing. It tends to turn me into a real D and not be that polite so I'll give you guys some benefit of the doubt first...

What is going on?

Speedtests put me at a whopping 4-5mb/s... I'm on a 40mb line!

My time on AH is very limited. I went onto capped purely because I was sick of getting shaped. I'm not entirely sure what made me think that Afrihost's capped accounts were unshaped. It was probably the bit on their website where they advertise it as "premium unshaped bandwidth that performs at your line’s maximum capacity"...

I feel so foolish for misunderstanding the concept of "unshaped". I didn't realize that they were referring to actual shapes. Is my internet in the shape of a square? Nope. What about a rectangle? Nope. Triangle? Still not...

Slow? Yes, but that isn't a shape. Prioritised? Yup, but once again, that still isn't a shape.. Optimised? If you're Helen Keller, then yes.. Otherwise, No.

So fair enough.. My capped account is indeed "unshaped"
