but this is a caped thread? I didnt think there should be any thresholds on capped? sorry maybe im reading wrong

Well mine is acceptable at the moment:

But then I have not been having problems during the day, the real test is how it performs after hours when everybody starts streaming.

Just for the sake of comparison I activated my Telkom Capped account on the same line to compare and factor out any local exchange issues.

I will do a similar comparison later this evening to see how it goes.

There definitely is no shaping at all on Capped accounts, but the amount of bandwidth currently in use across our network affects the shaping on Uncapped accounts. This means that whilst our system is being calibrated to take into account this additional bandwidth, the available bandwidth we have for all accounts may not be optimized.

That certainly seems improved, how has your general experience been on the connection?

It's the first time i have got such a low test as that but all is good again, otherwise no complaints here everything is peachy :D

Howdy all

I was hoping someone else might be experiencing the same issue and could help me:

I got capped at some point last night, and since then I haven't been able to use my afrihost details to connect (I'm pretty sure in the past it still allowed me to connect, and then re-directed me to Afrihost's site? Or am I thinking of someone else?).

It keeps telling me the username/password combination is incorrect, and it couldn't authenticate. My Plugg account works, but I haven't had any luck with Afrihost, so it looks like it's definitely ISP-related, and not a problem with my line/exchange.

Very strange... Could you please send me a PM with your ADSL username so that I can investigate.

Mine looks good! 19mb on a 20mb line via Speedtest from Port Elizabeth at a traditionally bad time.

Only strange thing is latency. Testing to MTN in Cape Town = 35ms, to SAIX or Mweb in Cape Town = 19ms.

Will check once your new capacity is stable/optimized.

Top ups not working? Tried by sms and by Android app.

Hmmm, they should be. Could you perhaps send me a PM with the username of the account you are trying to top-up and how much data you want added.

So much for being resolved:

That is not acceptable on a 10Meg Line with an unshaped account.
It can just barely handle SD video with a lot of buffering.

I think your status should revert from Green back to yellow if not red.

40mb line. Contention in the north again?.. Downloads are in the 200-400kb/s region. No problems when I use my webafrica account.

I'm really just fed up with all the problems on AH. I'd be happy to take my business elsewhere, even if that means having to pay more.

Thats what I did after many years at Afrihost!

Comparative testing of "Resolved" Cape Region

I await any pearls of wisdom from afrihost as to why this is flagged as resolved and a Green Status for the Western Cape.

If 1/6th of the performance is considered as resolved and no problems will 1/6th of my monthly bill be considered as Paid in full?

I have waited till Midnight to retest both ISP's, on the same line, on the 1st of the month to act as a base line and to show that the earlier reading is definitely Afrihost congestion despite the IPC upgrade.

Telkom:

Afrihost:

Certainly no evidence of any line or exchange issues as both are now within a few points of each other.
The difference of 200Kb/s is insignificant compared to the 4Mb/s difference of the earlier test.

I look forward to any suggestions as to why I should consider the issue as resolved.

Uhm.. All my downloads were completed before midnight, and yet 2.3GB carried over onto the new month's data usage! What time does AH start the new month?.. Disappointed.

Same happened to me a little less data, but my pc was set to shutdown at 23:50pm.. It would be nice to know the exact time.

Yeah I lost about 12GB last night. Although it was my own fault. Forgot to set the torrents and then only remembered at 10pm. So 12 GB in 2 hours on a 4mbps line. Probably not ganna happen.
