Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Ok, so then Afrihost Plus really adds no real value at the moment considering that the double data was the main benefit?

It benefits mobile clients. The double data is only one part and is still applicable to mobile I think.

It is but with typical MTN style T&C I have 2 lots of Afrihost Mobile Data, the 1Gig with the Phone and the 500Meg with plus+ but you are not allowed to double either, you have to buy more data to apply it to. So far Plus+ is a R99 subscription to Simfy, that I have not even used so far this month.

In that case.... I'm glad I never jumped on the Plus train :)

I've shot a mail through to Telkom requesting an escalation :)

Still nothing from them, getting a bit irritated now... Completely dead again:/

That is a telkom issue, your line is syncing at less than 1mb, you have really bad SNR for your attentuation as well.
Hope you have a line fault open, good luck.

I need a strong drink rather than good luck atm... If they had pulled finger and actually checked my line when I informed them of the intermittent connection this wouldn't have been a problem. However as usual "preventative maintenance" gets lost in translation somewhere.

Telkom did update the fault, happened earlier this morning. Not the best feedback though :(

Fault assigned to tech. No ETA yet due to high workload in area

So my 10Mbps line with Afrihost was syncing fine all the time @ full 10Mbps speed and just suddenly Telkom decided to just magically downgrade it to 6Mbps... WTF

Logged a support ticket now but why does someone fiddle with my line without notifying me? I REALLY doubt it was automatic. Someone changed it without my permission or notifying me at all and that is NOT ON.

Download shedding...

:(

Sadly it probably was Telkom's system that switched the line sync automatically, they have recently implemented a system that checks your line's readings and stats and sets the line sync to what it thinks is the most stable. Telkom also happened to remove the function on their back-end that allows us to manually change the line sync, so for the moment any changes to line sync we need to log with Telkom.

If that is the case then why is my 10Mbps line with Telkom unaffected? I got 2 x 10Mbps lines at the same address. Both lines are on 10Mbps profile both are the same premises but only my Afrihost line got downgraded and not my Telkom line?

I truly wish I knew what the actual criteria are, this new system has been causing significant issues for us as lines that in the past were quite stable at 10Mbps are suddenly having their line sync profiles set lower, and so far in most cases when we ask for Telkom to reset the sync, we get a standard response.

Could you please send me a PM with the ADSL line number, let me see if I can get the sync reset for you.

Perhaps they're trying to reduce contention in the exchanges?

Possibly... From what I have been able to find out this is only temporary until the new back-end is launched, so I definitely hope that we'll be able to get everyone back on the right speeds.

They are more likely trying to make telkom managed lines look faster than those managed by 3rd parties.
No, can't be, that would be under hand and could lead to complaints at the Competition Commission and Telkom would never risk that would they? :)

We should get access to interface with the system, and then we'll have the usual tools to set synch. There's still a lot we don't know, like whether Telkom's system will still automatically downgrade the synch periodically or if we can set the criteria to keep the line at the sync we want. Let's hope that's the case :(

Still nothing and after 20 min waiting for a "service consultant" I'm now pissed, please apply pressure and get this sorted, I really don't care how, this is why I have you manage my line.

The shyte signal from Afrihost Mobile isn't helping either.

Are you having the same problem?

I don't know why Telkom would only be downgrading the sync speed of wholesale dsl users.

That's terrible. I think you shared your number with AfriGuy. Could you PM me so I can check the status with Telkom?
