Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

From other information on other services I am involved with, it looks like there is a problem with an IPNet router in Bellville.

We (Telkom Internet) don't have any IPC circuits, or any SAIX circuits used for ADSL customers on this router, we have circuits on the *other* router in the same location.

Thanks for this info. We're being told that this was a Telkom regional IPC issue. Would be great to have some confirmation for the guys here in the forum and for clients possibly calling in for information. Feel free to PM me :)

North region should be running as normal. My connection is pretty normal right now.

What are you seeing on traceroutes?
I logged off shortly after posting, and now I'm at work. Hopefully the performance will be back to normal tonight, if not I will post a traceroute. Last night local was fine, but international was very slow. I've been with AH for about 6 weeks now, and last night was the first time that it didn't perform properly.

Everything seems fine again in Cape Town.

Thanks for the update!

It does look like the issue was resolved late last night.

That being said! I missed you guys! You've all been so quiet I thought you all had permanently left us!

Not such a Joke, a lot of us nearly did in November remember :)
Thanks for the heads up, I still have the Telkom account loaded I will switch back to AH if it is stable again.

Oh I remember the Dark Days of November well... It was almost as bad as the Great Blackout in October of 2012, when we had to move over from the IS ADSL network to the MTN ADSL network a lot sooner than we expected. :)

Did you guys really have to remind us of those terrible dark times? Now my PTSD has kicked in and I have to go and lie down.

:p

Sorry! I thought we were reminiscing over past events! At least things have gotten better! ;)

Not off to a good start here, I switched back to AH and the wife wants to see her show but it has exactly the same symptoms as this time last night!

Was it definitely fixed or has the belville router fallen over again?

This is not funny guys.

Definitely all sorted out. Are you able to paste a traceroute here?

I let it buffer for 20 min and it was fine till the end.
The line is definitely not 100% but we did have a blackout this afternoon so maybe it is a problem with the local exchange still recovering.
Wife is busy buffering another show so I can't test now.

How's this for congestion... :(

We did receive a memo from Telkom to confirm that loadshedding is going to affect DSL provision, but it was not specific in what ways. I think we can expect that loadshedded areas could expect total outages or diminished performance.

Gees, that's pretty horrible :(

Morning AfriFolk

My one Afrihost account seems to be foobar. It still has around 51GBs on it, but it is unusable.
Cannot load anything, websites unusable, speedtests a no-go or dismal and even tracerts all fail.

If I swap to other Afrihost accounts or other ISPs all is good again.

It is limited to just this one account.

May I PM one of you folk for assistance or is this a clientzone support ticket route?

EDIT:

Line Stats
Line Status:Connected
DSL Modulation Type:ADSL_2plus
Annex Type:Annex A/I/J/L/M

Upstream | Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps): 1020 | 6400
Max Rate (Kbps): 1124 | 9716
SNR Margin (dB): 7.9 | 9.6
Line Attenuation (dB): 24.4 | 44.9
Errors (Pkts): 0 | 0

I have done the reboot, powercycle etc... nothing helps.

So the AfriPeople know the story about my line upgrade so just thought I'd share with them. After a week of hassles Telkom finally put me on the 10meg profile, about half an hour after Genie asked them to change me back down to the 4meg profile;) Only lasted for a few min.

Stats were appalling tho so guess I'm stuck on 4 forever...

Great service btw guys, couldn't ask for better, too bad Telkom doesn't work.

TLDR: if you want Telkom to upgrade your line, ask them to downgrade.

Now that is very strange... Could you please send me a DM with the username of the affected account, I want to have a look at it to see if it got broken somehow.

As an ADSL user stuck on 4Mbps as well, I am sure we'll eventually see Telkom rolling out improved infrastructure, granted it may actually be easier for me to move to an area with 10Mbps or VDSL :P

I should thank you for the patience that you showed, I'm still not sure why it took Telkom that long to complete the initial upgrade.
