Getting less than 1Mbps on a 20MB VDSL line? Honestly what is going on?

Strange, your latency in the speedtest was 250+ms and yet looks much more normal in traceroutes (to JHB). Can you run the test a few times and see if latency spikes anywhere. I do see some jumps in between, so it's hard to pin down where this originates :(

Evening Guys!

I just wanted to let you know about the competition we are running for ClientZone Month. All you need to do to enter is follow this Link and answer ten quick questions. This will then enter you to win one of two iPad Airs!

Streaming and gaming sucks again tonight! Twitch buffers on medium and latency is over 300ms to Europe!

But I'm glad that your waste of time competitions work like bomb!

Well if you are having a ClientZone Month can we also ask questions, such as "Why did you remove the perfectly functional Client Zone that had useful, accessible information and replace it with a graphic heavy, cumbersome, hard to navigate load of eye candy that requires a silly quiz to even get people to look at it?"

One is Afrihost and one is another ISP. I'll let you guys take a stab at which is which.

I'm tired of this Afriguys. Seriously.

We do see traffic peaking between 7 and 10pm and there are short bursts of contention, which we're hoping to address by finding the loopholes in our (Uncapped) shaping that are being used for P2P, etc. This is similar to what we saw late last year and we did see some radical improvement when that work was completed, in terms of latency and overall throughput.

Well the quiz isn't because people don't use ClientZone, it's more of a fun, interactive way to let people know about new features and a few things they didn't know ClientZone could do (that have been around for ages).

The old ClientZone will always be fondly remembered, but it was more a patched together thing than a streamlined, planned application. The intent behind the new one was less about design and more about integrated functionality and seamless experience.

Eish .... slow slow slow international throughput tonight.

/sadface

I think the problem is not international but these periods of contention where traffic spikes during peak time and more P2P traffic gets through that's supposed to be shaped. This is a significant amount of traffic and will relieve a lot of the symptoms we're seeing. While our long term planning is still in place, we're focussing on this as we can see it will have an impact on client's everyday experience.
