Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

I really couldn't say why a VPN would perform better. Either way there should be good performance in the North as demand is not that high.

The VPN is performing better because the data is being encrypted and not picked up as a download therefore not being restricted from any filters that are in place from Afrihost side.

I actually had a chat with our Dev Team on Friday, and our Network Management Software is able to unwrap VPN traffic and identify what sort of the traffic is contained in the VPN.

As per your PM, you are also getting slower speeds with the test account, but at the moment on my side at least the test account is running close to maximum speed.

I'm finding this very puzzling... What sort of downloads are you running at the moment?

Since so many people asking about GTA online, I'll tell you about my experience so far, since I can't game now anyway my line little weird now.

I live in Cape Town bare that in mind.

On Afrihost from 00:00-18:00pm, GTA online is working perfectly fine, no teleportations or lag spikes. However, when I join a very populated server, that has over 20+ people in that session I do experience lag and delays, however this does not only occur on Afrihost account, also on WebAfrica, Crystal Web and Mweb, I tested myself, my friend who has mweb 2mb uncapped line, every time he enter high populated session he gets over 30% packet loss.

From 18:00-00:00, that is when Afrihost is acting up. What exactly happens online. I enter the game, I access online and the game put me alone in my own session, I can drive around and shoot with no people in my server. But when I try to enter my friend online session, where only 5-10 people in that session, it says: "Getting online session details" then after 1-2 minutes it times out and returns me back to single player. This is when I can't get into a online session at all. However other ISP's it does enter.

When I do enter a session online with Afrihost at around 18:00-00:00, I get into a session with at least 10 people in it, then I get:
"Unknown network error, you will be send back to GTA V". With other ISP's, I do enter with ease into the online session. If I do manage to stay in that session on a Afrihost account, my friend teleport around in my screen. Whereas the other ISP accounts I tested working fine.

(THIS ONLY OCCURS FROM 18:00-00:00, of my experiences, the rest of the day it working amazingly)

I did some test's myself, when I do able to enter with my Afrihost account at 18:00-00:00, my latency on teamspeak goes from 18-40ms sometimes even more, but the latency isn't the problem, what do increase is the packet loss from 0%-10%+, where as other ISP's also get 18-40ms increase but their packet loss seems to be intact at highest of 1% packet loss. So I do believe as Afrihost user from 18:00-00:00, that packet loss kick us out from the game, I noticed this, since my friend that gains 30% packet loss, gets kicked in 1-3min from roaming around.

What I do found whereas someone posted on forums, changing your DNS settings allow you to play GTA online effectively with no LAG or disconnections, of course there are delay, but not teleportations that occurs usually.

Also I found out that, reasoning for high ping in high populated servers or any server, is because GTAO keep putting me and my friends into United States servers and not European servers. Which dramatically increases the amount of LAG and Delay. Since the population for EU servers is full I assume, I tested it, I got into high populated server, and I added everyone from my current session, and everyone that accepted were all from United States.

This is just my experiencing and feedback so far.

AppStore download using openVPN

Both tested downloading the same app of the Apple AppStore.

Get 700KB/s on international speed test but speed test uses HTTP not so?

You are correct, Speedtest.net uses HTTP traffic.

So in theory you have decent international throughput.

Are you able to set which server or mirror your devices use for the iTunes downloads and updates?

No, it's just a standard app update or download from AppStore on my iPad can't select mirror.

This is not only limited to AppStore downloads. It's the same on all my downloads except HTTP.

Can you quickly restart your modem and test the connection and download speeds again. We've just made a change, and I need to see if it had any impact.
