Beware - If you have a Capped Bundled deal with AH and you want to get PLUS+ add-on you first have to "upgrade" to a Double Data account and in so doing you will loose your LINE discount.

So not only do you have to pay extra (R81.00 in my case) to get Double Data account you will still have to add the R99.00 (R145.00 later) to "enjoy" the add-on.

So WTH keep your line with AH I asked the rep? To which he answered

"Irvin N (09:00:53) : the only important reason you would keep the line with us is support based"

Rather under-handed if you ask me.... extra R180 just to enjoy extra data... me thinks not.

Yeah this is a bit sad; I've been with AH for YEARS but now I'm also considering moving away. Is Web Africa any good, the capped accounts?

2mb and 60GB + 120GB midnight data will be R349 whereas 2mb 50GB with AH will be R328

I'm on the 10mbps line + 75GB + 75GB bundle, and everything looks fine on my side. Signed up for the free trial on AH+ yesterday, didn't have to upgrade or unbundle or do anything funny. All I did was sign up for AH+ and it is now active.

Afrihost wouldn't be so underhanded. It's not their style. It's either a bug in their billing system, or something they overlooked.

Did you try to sign up over the phone, or use the ClientZone? I went through the ClientZone - no human interaction.

I'm enjoying my WA account! Great value and performance looks good so far.

I use to be with Afrihost and currently with WebAfrica. I find that the capped accounts from WebAfrica perform better, the only real advantage of Afrihost was extra anytime data. WebAfrica has it's weaknesses though. If you join WebAfrica only apply at the beginning of the month. People who have applied at the end of the month and requested activation in the following month were still billed for the month they registered in. I read through the WebAfrica forums when i considered joining and avoided this. I am happy with them and will only move if i find a better deal with same quality or better internet experience.

Thank you for the replies, I will definitely keep it in mind if I have to switch.

Apparently not all "Bundled" deals are equal. It seems some - like mine - have a large discount component ???

I pay R497 for 54Gig 10 Meg line bundled. I can not get Double Data as it stands. So only 54Gig.
To qualify I firstly have to swop to a Double Data account which is additional R81 and then enable Plus+ @ R99

Dealt with Live Chat and confirmed with Afriman.

Found in T/C's
Point 6.
Clients on non-standard Capped or Mobile packages (whether standalone or in bundles) may not be eligible for Double Data. Afrihost reserves the right to restrict this feature to packages deemed appropriate and clients may have to amend their product or product bundle to a standard one sold by Afrihost in order to make use of the feature. The definition of a standard product is one currently sold by Afrihost at the time of signing up for Afrihost Plus+.

WA offerings are looking much better the closer to year-end approaches.

Now, to find mobile data substitute.

Axxess does mobile data well with rollover. If you need extra sim Telkom Mobile is good too.

Right now there are a lot of people up in arms over this and some are ready to storm Frankenstein's keep with pitchforks and fire torches. Im interested to see how things are when this finally settles. I think we will get a good idea but latest march next year and either AH will be remember for launching an awesome package or the most poorly conceived package and more often than not people are remembered for what they did wrong instead of what they did well...

I believe AfriMan has replied to you in another thread regarding this

That's not the case. You can't lose any benefits by adding Plus, but you may not be able to claim certain benefits. If you are on a non-standard data package on Capped or Mobile, then they may not be eligible for Double Data. You still retain regular bundle pricing. So you can opt to rebundle as a standard bundle, or stick with the heavily discounted bundle you already have.
