Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

YouTube still touch and go?

Maxing out at 1mbps, most videos take ages before they start playing.

Is Afrihost's Google CDN down?
Because I see it first tries to pull from 169. range then switches to international

All good for me @ 18:30 in PE. YT videos at 1080 are perfect. No latency in CT, speedtests perfect.

Will check if this changes at 19:00 :)

That doesn't really make sense... The Youtube content should be served from a local CDN. If Twitch is running fine then Youtube definitely should be fine.

Could you take a screenshot of the Youtube Stats for Nerds please.
I see his screenshot of stats for nerds?
I am seeing the same in the east.....
So it must be isolated™

Hi Afrihost, I wanted to inquire if you guys are gonna run any promo soon.

Telkom has an amazing promo on 4Mbps uncapped. The uncapped is unshaped and has 2 FUPs. 1st FUP is 180GB with which you'll be throttled from 7pm - 9pm. 2nd FUP is 275GB with which you'll be throttled from 7am - 11.59pm.

Any data used between 12am - 7am doesn't count towards FUP.

Promo is R 599 Month to month. Promo is applicable to fibre and dsl.

Anything you guys planning to do to top this?

I am pretty sure that near all ISPs are running the second one, Afrihost is uncapped from midnight to 8am.
3 Free Data
Monthly Capped DSL Packages (excluding 1 GB) will receive Free, Unlimited After-Hours Data between Midnight and 8AM every day.

Any everything is back normal now.
So between 6pm and 10pm the network seems to be taking strain or shaping policies are a miss.

There is only one network. Both DSL and Fibre terminate at our closest point of presence and then we route from there. So if there is an ADSL problem and not on fibre, the issue is most likely an infrastructure issue on the Openserve network or exchange :(

I'll politely disagree. Feedback on the Fibre network received from AH "it’s a completely different tech & network architecture". And that makes sense logically. Anyway issues experienced on one and not the other mean that they're different enough to matter. *shrug*.

It's pretty easy to suggest it's the OpenServe network or exchange. It's equally easy to eliminate OpenServe as a point of failure - ask the affected users run with the AH Test Account. In my case the AH Test account ran perfectly, when the AH account was not. So in my case the OpenServe network and exchange were clean. So to eliminate doubt, share the test account with users experiencing the most severe issues and help them hone in on the problem.

*sigh*

That's capped accounts though? This is Telkom's uncapped account which doesn't include data used between 12am - 7am part of FUP. Even if you are throttled, between 12am - 7am , you should receive full line speed.

This beats other ISP offerings by being cheaper than their home uncapped accounts with a larger FUP and the uncapped account has no shaping. And a time period in which whatever you use doesn't fall part of FUP.

What our team might have been referring to was local fibre infrastructure and connection protocols. As Afriman mentioned, there is only one network.

How long did you run with the Afrihost test account for?

Our Home Uncapped accounts are the only accounts that we count data usage toward our FUP. :) Regardless, we're always thinking of new and awesome promotions to run. Judging by what we have done in the past, I don't think our creativity is going to die down anytime soon.

Debate the semantics with your fibre managers. They were explaining why my move to fibre would offer a different experience.
Ran it long enough. Over months.

Anybody in KZN having any issues? Adsl link continually going down.

We're not experiencing any intermittency on our network at this time. :( Please PM me your account info and I'll help you look into these drops.

Another evening, more high latency on Afrihost. 250-280ms to Heroes of the Storm EU. 165ms on Vox, please explain why the huge difference in latency?
