Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Afrihost ticket [CJL-463-62222]
OpenServe/Telkom ticket 82CWK180618

2 MTRs from 2 "different" ISPs and suddenly like magic all ISP logins I use are showing unshaped results, regardless of what ISP login I use on the router. So where is the shaping done? At OpenServe/Telkom or at Afrihost? Or at Afrihost via Openserve/Telkom?

So throwing double your money at the problem - suddenly gives you unshaped access on at least 3 different ISPs - giving you the same readings besides a slightly different ping.

View attachment 532329

Shaping is only ever done on the ISPs side. There could be congestion on your local Exchange, but the Openserve tech should have been aware of that if that was the case.

OpenServe/Telkom ticket 82CWK180618

One day after my connectivity was fixed and I upgraded to an unshaped account. Packet loss is back...and I'm only getting 1Mbps. So yesterday it works perfectly and at 08.10am the next day its all stuffed up again. Connectivity times out every 4 minutes.

So if shaping occurs at Afrihost and not the OpenServe exchange - you must be shaping my UNSHAPED account as well. So what's the point of paying you double for an UNSHAPED account?

When there was no shaping on this account yesterday - the line never dropped, my line speed was constant, and there was NO packet loss...Proof that this connection to the exchange CAN WORK perfectly...

Lets see how long this one takes to resolve.

But I will cancel any account upgrade if this issue continues.

It makes absolutely no sense to pay for UNSHAPED capped accounts - and STILL get shaped to death. Because that would mean AH cant cope with their number of subscribers and their demand on the Afrihost network. And quality of service goes pearshaped as a result.

No sane person would throw money at the problem and expect the very same results after upgrading a DSL account with an ISP to UNSHAPED.

I just checked on your Capped account, and it's definitely not being shaped. There isn't even shaping profile for it.

What is your DSL line syncing on at the moment?

I'm not sure I understand the question. If you are using a VPN, it will show the VPN IP publicly. Won't it defeat the purpose you are using the VPN for? Maybe I need to better understand the application :(

The problem I have with sitting behind a VPN is that I cannot access your News Servers as it is not a recognized IP on your system I guess.
I just want access to your news server with my public static IP. This is not a public static ip from Afrihosts business package
