Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

I'm not sure I understand the question. If you are using a VPN, it will show the VPN IP publicly. Won't it defeat the purpose you are using the VPN for? Maybe I need to better understand the application :(

Do you now understand what I am talking about??????????
Can you guys take my public static IP and make use of it?

My internet has been taking a speed hit the last few days, never the same time but always in the evening (from about 18h to 21h or so).

I'm on a 20Mbps VDSL 300GB Shaped Capped account. This is the speed and ping I'm getting.

ping to bras.afrishost.com is 50ms.

Our News Servers use your Afrihost IP for authenticating your access, it's not possible for us to map your static IP from the VPN to allow that IP to connect to our News Server.

That's not looking great. When you have a chance, can you please PM me your account details so that I can check what's going on.

You seriously need to chill out. Please treat the reps with respect - some of us would like to continue having their support available on this forum.

ClientZone - 2 Factor Authentication

I received an email about Afrihost enabling 2 Factor Authentication. While I think this is a good idea from a security standpoint, it does pose a few significant issues for some of us.

My brother and I share a Capped ADSL account and both like to keep track of our individual usage, not via App, but via web browser.

If only he is receiving the OTP, I'd have to phone him everytime I wanted to check my usage, which would be more trouble than it's worth. If you implement the ability to additional contact numbers where OTPs are sent and we both receive OTPs everytime one of us signs in, this will also be annoying.

The only way I see this working for us is if you at least make usage stats available without the need for an OTP. Failing that, giving us the ability to opt out of the 2FA system, until something like that can be implemented.

Not impressed with the 2FA either - I am quite capable of keeping my passwords secure.

Support on this forum seems to have gone quiet. In contrast to the live chat and phone support I had today regarding my upgrade which was excellent. So kudos for that.

Would really like some feedback on what the way forward for the new OTP system is going to be, and how it's going to affect access to basic usage stats. So far it doesn't seem to have been implemented, short of a random OTP I was sent out of the blue when checking that my personal details were all correct.

It would be awesome if the OTP system would only be required when making changes or accessing personal information. Seems an unnecessary burden just to check usage stats.

I totally understand that this kind of change can be quite drastic, but we really believe this is a necessary feature to safeguard our client's data.

You also won't need to use an OTP everytime you log into ClientZone. It's only going to be required when an unrecognised device tries to log into ClientZone (as I understand it). So once you've verified that device - you should be good from then on :)

Sorry we've been a bit quiet - we've been a man or two down for a bit :(

OTP is not going to affect any ClientZone functionality. It's purely a mechanism to protect client data - especially if a client happens to get phished. The offending hacker will not be able to access their ClientZone (even with their password) until the OTP authenticates the new device.

Thereafter, you'll log into ClientZone as normal

I'm totally in favour of it, if it doesn't become too intrusive in terms of frequent and unnecessary requests. If it has already been implemented, then so far so good.

I haven't received a OTP challenge that has been necessary to complete as yet.

Thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

You should be receiving the OTP prompts pretty soon if you haven't already.

Degraded Service in Southern Regions
DSL and OpenServe Fibre clients in the South may be experiencing slow speeds and high latency. Our engineers are working with our upstream providers to investigate the cause of the issue and resolve it as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience that this might cause.

Yeah me 2. Have been perfect for the past few months up until this afternoon. Sad panda as I have some urgent work that has to be done.
