Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Seems to be some DNS issues for the last 15 minutes that has been resolved.

Glad to hear things are back to normal. I didn't see any alerts from our NOC Team but I'll look into anything that could have happened.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. :( Are you currently on a Shaped Capped account? How's regular browsing and streaming performance?

Are you really asking me how browsing performance is on a 100mb line?

Last night I had to swap over to my dad's Telkom account because NNTP is DEAD from 7pm - 11pm. If I can just have full speed for 5 - 10mins I can finish my daily queue.

Are you shaping your uncapped users worse than this? I wasn't lying when I said I get 100KB/s to a server with 20 connections. You guys really need to do something because this is really bad.

NNTP is dead at the moment. Not doing a thing.
Okay, so after 10 mins or so it started going again.
Throughput is LOW - less than 250kpbs. Currently hovering at 121kbps.

I'd like to know when I'm being shaped

Hey AfriPeeps,

I'd appreciate if you guys could escalate the following to management.
AH customers would like a view of shaping activity on their (new) Shaped Capped accounts in order to make an informed decision on whether the Shaped Capped offering is delivering to their expectations. These being informed by the communications from AH indicating that the likelihood for shaping is extremely low.

Much appreciated,
SD.

So NNTP appears to have been stone dead until midnight, when it commenced again.
Downloads were 1.6MB/s around midnight and 1.9MB/s around 7am this morning.

If I can maintain a connection on nntp, it seems to work anytime but the afrihost nntp server is borked. Can't maintain and depending what ip resolves at the time, ping from 80ms - 1000+ms

This is definitely something we are considering. I'm not sure on the timeline for this yet, but the moment I have an idea I'll let you guys know.

That shouldn't be the case... :( I'll ask our Team to check what's going on with the NNTP server.

services is really getting pathetic now with connections dropping after midnight

Do you mean your actual internet connectivity dropping? Your current session seems pretty stable, it's been open for more than 3 days.

I've passed your details onto our Network Team to check what's going on. You should have been seeing full NNTP throughput last night.

Not sure if it is Telkom exchange or AH, but latency is all over the place for gaming and downloads :(

Or is this the result of changing from an Unshaped to Shaped package this month? I noticed that even my torrents are running slower than "normal" (used to run at ~300 kBs on my 4 meg line, but is now running at ~250 kBs for the last few days).

Based on discussion on the fibre thread, I was considering using AH data when I switch to fibre ..... but if I use this test result (comparing Unshaped Capped with Shaped Capped), I am not sure I like what I see :(

Obviously if I stay with AH data (fibre being from OpenServe) and use another provider for my fibre line, I would lose out on the free installation and free router deals that are currently provided by ISP's if one sign up for the full package (capped data and line). This is the main reason why I elected to move from unshaped to shaped - merely to test the "shaping" effects. Needles to say that if I move in totality from AH, I would be getting the "installation discounts" as well as stick with an unshaped capped package from the competition, as there are some pretty decent offers out there.

Any inputs would be appreciated.
