I can connect to the server and it says test successful but when it tries to download anything, it has zero throughput. Other servers work fine.
Some seriously frustrating stuff happening at the moment. It seems as if all of us are experiencing problems in different areas at different times. I had attrocious NNTP performance a couple of weeks ago. Now it appears stable however DSTV downloads from the Explorer are absolutely shot to heck currently. Haven't been able to watch anything via download for days now. Also hit troubles with streaming YouTube some days ago. Now those seems to be stable. This erratic performance is clearly doing the rounds. The AH team have a lot to address.

European servers are horrendous this evening. Speeds are ~2.7mbps.
http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124740421.png

US seems fine. I'm getting 18mbps.
http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124736969.png

Local CPT is fine > 19mbps
http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124745715.png

Joburg is fairly good ~16mbps. Is generally higher.
No reason why it should be less than to the US.
http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124747890.png
Then another test to (seacom) Joburg proves faster but latency is awful.
http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124750742.png

-- UPDATE:
Just realised I have an AH Test account.
Here are the comparative outcomes. Same servers as above.

UK - 18.5mbps - http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124764963.png
US - 19mbps - http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124768892.png
JHB Vodacom - 19.6mbps http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124771035.png
JHB Seacom - 19.2mbps - http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6124773293.png
Lower latency as well.

So... the test account performed better.

It stats around 6-8 and normally ends at 11-12. It's a trend, trust me. I wonder if I can get a refund under the 60 day refund policy.

So I've cancelled with Afrihost & gone with option 3 which I've mentioned on the previous page (double data + double speed). Now if I understand correctly Afrihost will only process the cancellation after 30 days and then only app 3-5 days later will my line be managed by Axxess?

Meaning I will only enjoy double my current speed in +/- 35 days time???

WHY AfriGenie, WHYYY?

We'll cancel your service at the end of this month, but we'll schedule your line cancellation to coincide with month end, so its up to the new ISP to request it from the holding pool as soon as possible.

Until then, we'd still like to offer the best experience that we can until you leave us, so please troubleshoot with us so we can improve wherever possible :(

@The AfriPeeps
Alright guys I've done the DSTV Explorer download tests using a test account (from AfriGenie) and my capped AH account. The outcome is ...

- AH capped account - downloads 8 seconds of content during the 30 second buffer fill.
- Test account - downloads 60 seconds of content during the 30 second buffer fill.
The test account works as my AH capped account used to. Until begining of Feb or thereabouts.
There is clearly an issue... and a signifcant one at that.

Hope we can crack this.

I don't have Showmax so can't test it however thought I'd drop in the traces for that given the issues that Hummercellc noted.

I'm concerned about the intermittent packet loss on both the Afrihost and Test accounts At first I though it was only within Optinet's network, but seems like it's occurring randomly.

Im assuming the test account is a SAIX account? How long did you keep that account connected?

Seriously feels like I'm being throttled on my capped account. 30-50kb/s max on twitch and facebook, 120kb/s on youtube, 150kb/s on p2p, 5mb on speed test and 800kb/s on Steam downloads. Very inconsistent ping and packet loss on international servers for gaming. This is on 8mb line. Issue has been happening since mid Feb. Originally thought my line was the cause (requested downgrade to 4mb) but everything is 100% on my WebAfrica account besides occasional line desync

It definitely wouldn't be shaping, because YouTube is not a shaped service, and neither is Twitch or Facebook. Steam downloads would be affected, so it's strange that you are seeing this in reverse. I would love to see what your latency is like, because that would make more sense :(

Hi guys,

My modem is using DNS servers 169.1.1.1 and 169.1.1,9. This is auto set from AH.
I need to hard set the DNS servers so I've been checking latency to each.
I've noted relatively high latencies to the AH servers.

1. When compared with Telkom's CPT server (wblv-ip-dns.saix.net), AH's 169.1.1.2 averages 74ms compared to Telkom at 22ms. Why is this so? I've included traces below.

I'd off course want to use AH's DNS servers for local CDN's etc, however something isn't right with 169.1.1.2.

Thoughts please.

Again seeing packet loss here, especially to the router which is super weird. Are you testing over WiFi?

Facebook videos are honestly horrible. Only issue that I'm having is Facebook videos. Can someone improve the experience?

Have you run any tests we can take a look at? Facebook Video and Facebook Live have been working normally for me :(

Seems like I'm not the only one getting these slow speeds from Afrihost. After much debate with the online team, and me telling them that I've been throttled and shaped, they've finally admitted to it. Got myself unshaped, but now it seems like it's worse. What am I actually paying for here?

VDSL 20mbps line
Ping: 146ms
Down: 50.5 KBps
Up: 151KBps

I don't think this is a shaping issue, to be honest. You're getting much higher latency than you should for what I assume is a local test.

Could you please post a traceroute? :(

This is sad...

The straight line is with a vox account

I see that you're testing with your alternate account pretty late, it would be a good test to switch the times now. If there is congestion on your exchange (for example) then it would look like one ISP is performing poorly, when it may be time based. Not saying that this is the case necessarily, but it would be good to do that test so we know for sure :(

Definitely not looking good. Have you received any word from our NOC team yet? :(

You are a busy boy this morning :) No, I have not heard from them.

I do check local Bras latency which is normally absolutely fine during the period, in addition my latency is not bad, a little higher than normal, but not bad. It's the throughput which is the killer.

Unfortunately I work a lot at night, and had to basically give up last night. Web pages would load very slowly, videos wouldn't play and ended up trying to download them which took 30 minutes for a 44mb file.
