Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Are all accounts throttled no matter the usage? I havent used my Afrihost account since the start of the month. Last night I decided to switch over and it is being throttled/ shaped whatever you wanna call it. Its a 100gig cap. Every month I have just over 200gig available which indicates how little I use it.

I haven't done any tests last night. This morning everything is running smooth again.

With all these complaints there must be something wrong with the network.

I didn't have any problems when I had the 50GB + 50GB package. But since it got changed to 100GB I've had problems, especially over weekends and in the evenings.

I'm concerned about the intermittent packet loss on both the Afrihost and Test accounts At first I though it was only within Optinet's network, but seems like it's occurring randomly.

Im assuming the test account is a SAIX account? How long did you keep that account connected?

Account is SAIX. Was provided by AfriGenie/Afrifella.
Packetloss is odd however did not impact SAIX network performance.
Account was connected for about 15mins or so and on two days. Sat and Sun.

Again seeing packet loss here, especially to the router which is super weird. Are you testing over WiFi?

Connection is wired. No it's not the router showing packet loss. It's the 3rd hop however disregard as that's potentially how MTR is reporting losses at the endpoint back down. i

I see that you're testing with your alternate account pretty late, it would be a good test to switch the times now. If there is congestion on your exchange (for example) then it would look like one ISP is performing poorly, when it may be time based. Not saying that this is the case necessarily, but it would be good to do that test so we know for sure :(

Have a look at my tests. They were run in sequence. Shows significantly better performance using the SAIX test account.

If I pause or cancel my data package, is the unused rollover data still available the month after pausing/cancelling?

We'll cancel your service at the end of this month, but we'll schedule your line cancellation to coincide with month end, so its up to the new ISP to request it from the holding pool as soon as possible.

As soon as possible being no earlier than 01/04/2017 - that is the problem.

Is there no way my line can be transferred to the holding pool like immediately?

it takes 21 business days, well at least from Telkom to the holding pool. Not sure if this is the same from Afrihost. But as soon as its in the pool, the new ISP can pick it up quickly.

You are a busy boy this morning :) No, I have not heard from them.

I do check local Bras latency which is normally absolutely fine during the period, in addition my latency is not bad, a little higher than normal, but not bad. It's the throughput which is the killer.

Unfortunately I work a lot at night, and had to basically give up last night. Web pages would load very slowly, videos wouldn't play and ended up trying to download them which took 30 minutes for a 44mb file.

:(

How are things looking at the moment? Has there been any change?

The only products that are throttled are the Home Uncapped accounts. The shaping on Shaped Capped accounts shouldn't be noticeable at the moment.

Which services were not running well for you? Which DNS servers are you using at the moment?

We're checking everything on our end as well to see if there is anything that wasn't running as well as it should have been.

I wonder if there isn't an issue with the routing. I think it may be best to ask our Critical Care Team to get hold of you. They will definitely be able to figure out what's going on.

If I pause or cancel my data package, is the unused rollover data still available the month after pausing/cancelling?

If you cancel, then yes, your rolled-over data will be available in the next month. If you opt to Pause your account it won't be though, Pausing assumes that your account won't be used at all for the specified period.

Were you able to run a speedtest at all?

Not at home currently. Will check later.

Also, as per my suspicions, I logged an issue with Afrihost. I received confirmation that there is a fault on the line. Hopefully it will be resolved soon (48hours...more time offline...)

Not at home today, but it's normally fine during the days when I work from home.

When you get a chance, please test your connection and let me know. I want to make sure everything is running as it should be.

Generally it's not possible... Could you DM me your details and I'll see what I can do.
