Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Hi afriman, again tonight I'm having bad lag(500+ms) in diablo 3(eu server) and forced to watch twitch on mobile quality(160P).

My friend stays in pmb, im in newcastle, we both experiencing the same thing at the same time(in the evening 7pm+).

Speedtests were only going from 2-3mb (8mb line) and i was getting high ping. I was getting low packet loss to www.bodybuilding.com for example. Unfortunately I don't have another ISP to test at this stage but something is definitely up.. Thanks

PS: can watch youtube on 720P tho....?

The best thing would be for both of you to run traceroutes so we can see where traffic starts to incur latency. If it's on the same hop on our network, we'll know exactly where to look :(
 
this is now the 2nd week the internet is so bad specially after 5-6pm we are definitely paying for a service we are not getting and it looks a lot like shaping

We really can't help if you won't provide tests.

You're also in CT and the other use posting is in KZN, so different regions, different IPC, different network kit.
 
What do you want me to tracert when it happens tonight?

Whatever site you're having issues with, do the same traceroute so we compare apples with apples. Might also be good to have a local and international trace so we can see if it's just an international problem, or happens on both.
 
AfriGenie - my line is still with you guys. Internet been misbehaving since around 6:30 pm. Are you able to see if anything is wrong? Fault in the area?
 
Hi Afrifella please can you advise me what Afrihost is doing to reduce waiting times at your call center. I was an Afrihost before MTN days and you really were the best service provider in the country.

We are definitely addressing this.

Firstly, we've launched a Whatsapp contact platform, which has diverted a ton of traffic from our phones. This has reduced the average hold time massively.

We've also launched a Call Back feature in ClientZone which is more extensive than before. You can submit a request with detail and we'll call you back with specific assistance. We're aiming to devote more resources to this to make it more intuitive and efficient.

We are also looking at launching other alternatives so that our phone lines are less taxed and also so that clients can get the assistance they want in a way that's convenient and efficient.

So expect some big changes in that area :)

You can see on the tracert above the high latency starts at hop 5 to 7. That looks to be inside AH.

Problem is if there is intermittent latency at the exchange, it could manifest anywhere later in the traceroute. I can see one of your hops to the bras is already at 43ms, which is a little worrying. We generally also like to see these hops around 10ms or less :(
 
speeds are crappy again tonight and the problem is definitely on the ah network

Afrihost is currently limiting the speed of my capped account on certain protocols. Also been having poor ping for online gaming. Everything 100% on Telkom.
