I have been experiencing +640ms latency with afrihost login.

The line works fine with a telkom account/login. So it is not the line/modem/computer. Speed test is also normal 34ms (on telkom)

They have fixed it twice this week, but it seems to reoccur.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues in JHB. Afrihost says there is no problems with there network.

Sorry to hear you're having such awful latency. Can imagine that it must be pretty frustrating :(

We're not having a general issue like this, please drop me a PM and we'll see what we can do to sort this out for you.

I have experienced similar latency issues on both the @afrihost and @ afrigreen networks, yet when changing over to a different ISP, the latency issue seems to disappear. I have performed a few ping plotter tests on the @afrihost, @afrigreen and the different ISP's network and shared it with Afrihost's Client Zone folk - the high ping on the local hops across the two afrihost networks is not seen on the other ISP's network.

High latency is quite a problem for online gaming :(

Yeah, my afrihost latency is tanking pretty badly as well, dota on my 10mb business line on afrihost.co.za and afrigreen gives 100-500ms latency spiking often making the game really unplayable, switched to a trial WebAfrica account and it was 30-60ms, smooth gameplay. Huge difference. Been like this for a while now :(

definitely doesn't sound too good here. Could you please post your results so I can see what that latency is?

Could you please also post that feedback here, so we can compare with other people's test results?

You definitely shouldn't be seeing latency on AfriGreen. Have you posted this in this thread?

This will really help if you can post your actual latency tests there so we can compare with other AfriGreen users who play DOTA.

As stated, please note that this is not constant - the high ping spikes are normally only noticed during peak periods. The Pingplotter tests were done over a few days and the last one is on the WA network (I am running a capped Afrihost account on a 2 Meg Telkom ADSL line).

Hhmm, looks like the latency is sneaking in with us.
Would you be able to complete the same tests a bit later this evening so we have a good comparison baseline?

Sure, will do

For the record - the posted tests were done during the end of Sept 2015 (28th & 29th) between 16:00 and 21:00 (I have not captured any of the tests done after this, as my logs with ClientZone came to grinding halt, as it is believed to be caused by my Telkom line/Hardware).

Last night (04 October) after 16:30'ish, my connection was absolutely horrendous.

Will take a peek at it this afternoon and will provide some more screen dumps.

Ah OK, then definitely need to see some up to date results then :)

Some tests and in game screenshot taken today at 16:48/16:50 - hope it helps

Thanks, not looking good at all here.
I see you're using Afrigreen - do you see the same performance using your regular account too?

If I swap over to the @afrihost, the lag spikes appears to be slightly worse (on the MTN backbone) - running Diablo III on the MTN network via AH is a certain death by latency :D

The only solution for me at the moment to enjoy gaming is to use my AH account for downloads and my 1GB free WA account for gaming.

Ping Plotter test on the MTN network:

PS: I trust it will be OK, if I continue this thread on the Afrihost POC Network Afrigreen Feedback page.

Sorry about the delays here :(
How does in-game latency compare on your @afrihost.co.za account?
