I refer you to my initial inquiry posted here on myBB when this "promotion" broke:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/521573-Afrihost-ADSL-capped-prices-slashed-up-to-50/page2

Please note entry number 25. There was nothing in that thread that indicated (to me at least) that the double data would end at the end of July. I specifically asked the question because the special offers we have had from Afrihost in the past have not expired (R99 for 10 gigs being a prime example). It was not unreasonable to assume that the same would be true for people signing up for this promo before it expired at the end of July.

I made the change based on that thread and your input to it. It resulted in me making quite a considerable change to my internet and other media packages that I have from other suppliers (think TV here) and yet now you turn around and tell me I am deluded. Don't expect then that this doesn't leave me with a bad taste in my mouth as I now have to go to and undo a whole bunch pf things based on this deception.

I remain annoyed and your intentions remain conspicuous.

I don't see how the question you are referring to (or my response to you) in any way references this being a limited period promotion or a permanent product offer :(

And also it is not a "wild accusation" in the slightest. Being able to distinguish between a limited offer and a once off special that expires should not become an exercise in semantics. This really, really has left me asking a big question about Afrihost's misuse of PR here on myBroadband.

Again, I'll ask you what you would prefer to do - debate the ethics and integrity of Afrihost, or try to find a reasonable solution.

A reasonable person, based on the feedback in this thread and on Facebook, would have assumed that the offer was limited based on:

a) The warnings and notes on the product page, the email offer, and even from the MyBroadBand article your referenced (even though we cannot control how 3rd parties represent us in the media)
b) The way the product was presented as 35GB + 35GB Free, instead of 70GB, at R299 - which was the same price as 35GB had been prior to the promotion.

We never changed the product, we simply gave away Double Data for a limited period. You paid R299 for 35GB and for a limited period got another 35GB Free. Now that the promotion is over, you still pay for and receive the same 35GB for R299. You are not "locked in" to this product/payment - you can downgrade back to 10GB at ANY time in ClientZone.

Again, I am happy to help you, so that we can clear up the confusion. At the end of the day, you are unhappy and Afrihost is not in the unhappy client business. I proposed a solution in my PM to you which you seem to have accepted by sending me your username - so I am happy to continue on that basis. If you want us to know that we could have benefited by being even more explicit to avoid confusion in the future, then that is feedback I can definitely take to the guys who work on these campaigns.

But using words like dodgy, deceit & conspicuous in relation to our company and brand is not cool, and that is really not in the spirit of trying to work out what was clearly a misunderstanding.

I can only speak for myself but it was clear as day what the promotion meant. What surprises can we expect next month Afriman? Is it in my best interests to stick on this product?Pray tell

Every company representative on this forum could strive to match this level of reconciliation with clients.

Count me as a very impressed and "new" client as soon as my Mweb account has been cancelled.
(Already have a few capped accounts with Afrihost, but moving the whole catoot over asap)

Afriman don't entertain him his the only one out of 1000 clients thats complaining, he never understood now his looking for someone to blame typical..

In hind-site am a new/old client and very happy with the customer support i received:p thus far.

Bully for you, SFW007. You don't have to re-adjust a whole bunch of subscriptions based on a "misinterpretation". I based my interpretation of this special on historical interpretations of specials from Afrihost and yeah, now I look like an a-hole because my direct questions to Afriman in the original thread were not dispelled.

Have a nice day.

Oh, Afriman. You said I can downgrade back to my 10GB product in the control panel at any time. Well, gee, I guess that R99 for 10+1GB's I have been using since it first came out is now R145 a month. So yeah, I feel like I got screwed. Thank you.

The tendency for me is that when I feel like I have been taken for a fool I get livid. In this instance, as has been discussed with Afriman, I replaced a well priced one-time product with what I had believed in good faith to be another well priced one-time product, only to discover three months later that this was not the case. Am I at fault for feeling indignant?

Afriman is working on replacing my lost product, but I hope that my voice on how this matter was portrayed has been heard.

Since we have reached a solution and this has been resolved, I suggest that we close the issue :)

Which is why most of the service industry in ZA sucks, sadly.

Amen.

Whilst I still disagree with the initial representation of this deal, I do appreciate that Afrihost have at least taken me back to what I had before, even though it does not come with an acknowledgement of the fact that I acted with circumspection on an offer that was promoted in good faith here on myBB.

When you make direct changes to your package in the Afrihost Client Zone, which is what I did based on the myBB article, you don't go through any Afrihost marketing pages where said T&C's were alleged to have appeared. You only see a small box that you acknowledge that you are changing the package and that previous packages cannot be regained once changed. Nowhere in that process was I told of this new deal as being temporary. Coupled with the original article about "price slashing" I can hardly be expected to have believed anything else than it being a new "one-time deal", similar to the one I had been using for a long time.

The extenuating circumstances around my adoption of this new deal involved cancelling other ISP deals that required a month's notice (so I paid for data with them that I didn't need) and it also resulted in my purchasing hardware that replaced my PVR. Now I must go backwards.

I hope you understand my frustration even if you don't sympathise with it.

errr, Afriman, you seem to have gotten caught in a bit of a spin there and forgot to reply to me.

So basically next month no double data right?

If so, can I cancel on the 25th or should I do it before?

I haven't received confirmation on the promotions we'll be running, so maybe wait a while You can definitely cancel anytime before the 25th, so I'll try and get some answers for you on what September holds for Capped clients.

Drop me a PM to remind me :)

For a long time I have been saying that uncapped accounts are crap. They might be good for business, but they are crap for consumers. Ideally I would like to see the following, uncomplicated, unshaped capped pricing available:

1st 15GB @ R15 per GB (ie. a compulsory package of R150 per month)
Anything used over 15GB should not cost more than R10 per GB.

This is about as fair as it gets I think. The ISP is assured of revenue in the form of the compulsory R150 and consumers are allowed to use as much as they like after that at a reasonable price. If you want to use 100GB additional a month, you're in for an extra grand. If you only need 15, you're not paying for GB's you don't need.

I would sign up for that deal in a heartbeat. Please make it happen.

I guess no special for September since no response from Afriman. Kind of deceiving since he promised to get back to me before 25th. Cancellation will be done today, hope there are no issues with the cancellation. Really not worth staying on the Afrihost capped accounts at this price. Afriman, will give you until later today to respond. Hopefully you can give me some good news.

Expect 'issues' mate - it is too late to cancel. Afrihost cancellations should be done before the 25th from what I'm aware. Operating word being before.
