Does anyone have this problem:
For the past few weeks, after around 6pm daily, my fibre line goes to s..t, as in totally unasable that I have to plug in my telkom wireless thingie again. I am on the home basic uncapped fibre 10 Mbps, and I've logged calls with them numerous times, and always they say the same thing, everything is fine on their side, reboot the router. Now I was thinking that my line is shaped, but afrihost says no it's not. My actual question is: Should I move to a capped option rather, or give up on afrihost? I am the only person connected in my block of flats.
For more clarity, this is on normal streaming, PSN downloads, Steam Downloads, browsing, ALL kinds of traffic.
Thanks.

Plug it in

You should plug in with a LAN cable, and eliminate the question of wireless completely. If you're high up, your wireless might be getting interference from people for kilometres around when they all get home to their evening internet.

If you still have a problem when wired, then you should get them to find out whether your area is congested (you're probably on the same infrastructure as the DSL people of your area).

Welcome to the AfriHost club. Check the complaints in their "sub forum" about this exact same issue. It's been on going for months now. They claim everything is fine, report, after report, after report from users, indicate it isn't. All suffering from this *exact* issue.

AH's network is going up the creeks. I'd advise to do like many others have done, and find a new ISP.

I dont understand AH fiber options. Why is it, that they are the only ones that offer 3 options per package. Wheres as every other ISP just has options per mbps

Because they are trying to scam people into thinking that its like ADSL and have to pay extra for what others deem normal service.

Its ridiculous. Utter garbage. Told most of the units not to use them but rather CISP.

Well you did them a great service, the worst is AH pretend like they are the leading fibre ISP but like you say its mostly garbage.

Edit - Update, so, AH finally came back to me with an e-mail telling me that I have exceeded the limit (120GB), and to get back to full speed again I will need to upgrade to one of their 'priority' packages, or consume less than 120GB in a 40 day period, not even sure what this last sentence means. Keep in mind, this is all on an 'uncapped' line. Very MWEBie if you ask me.

Hi Guys

I’ve recently installed a 20m home fiber connection through Afrihost and must say I am utterly disappointed.

The line is inconsistent and I get more buffering than my VDSL service.

I have now learned that you can’t just switch to a new ISP like DSL. Open serve treats it as a complete new installation. You will therefore end up paying for a new installation again. This doesn’t make sense the fiber is installed and connected how can they charge you the full installation fees again.

There is a definitely a problem if you are doing speed tests to local servers as those pings are extremely high for local... Hope you were testing internationally or else there is a huge problem

Ja same issues with the girlfriends' Afrihost on Octotel.... very shi**y connection... and of course speedtest.net is great getting like 10mbps (10mbps line) but no where near that experience... but as soon as we started doing speedtest on the lesser known ones like bandwithplace.com etc we saw speeds like 1.1 or 0.8mbps... I'm pretty sure they game the speedtests... Also whats interesting is... she still has her 10mbsp ADSL active also with Afrihost... and its a MUCH better experience.

Afrihost Slow

I've been experiencing drops in connectivity recently. Usually around 6pm my streaming stops for about 5 minutes. Then it repeats about 10-15 minutes later. I'm running 50/50 uncapped "home" - whatever that means - for R1049 a month. Any recommendations?
