Afrihost fixed mobile data, any good for gaming?

Basically, I'm about tired of Telkom. Took us nearly a month to get away from them when we changed ISPs and now our landline is down and yep, close on two weeks of nothing from these tossers.

We barely use the home phone, the line is mainly there for internet purposes. The only alternative I have been able to find is Afrihost's fixed mobile data. I'm a little skeptical when it comes to mobile data and gaming, but they claim their bigger packages are suited to gaming.

Are there any gamers that have any experience with this?

Also, I see quite a few threads in this forums mentioning connection issues with regards to Afrihost as an ISP, is this still a concern?

Yes, I game with my MTN sim occasionally and it's really decent.

But it all depends on signal strength, tower congestion and throughput.

Generally anything wireless can cause problems with gaming - even local WiFi.
While you can definitely game on WiFi as well as Mobile, it's extremely hard to guarantee latency purely due to the way Mobile networks are setup.

I've seen a few clients game quite happily, I've run a few sessions from my MiFi too and the experience was OK with a few spikes in latency. As Rickster says, it's all down the area, your signal quality and coverage.
Maybe look at grabbing a SIM from us and testing our LTE in the area before making a final decision?

There are indeed.
The easiest way to go is probably buy a SIM for your phone - I'm assuming it's LTE compatible? If so, grab a SIM from us and the smallest package, hook it up and see how it goes.

Just remember that fixed mobile will probably give you a better signal, but at least it's a good baseline.
You can also use an APN if you have an MTN SIM.

Do you perhaps recall what your average ping was? The only MMO I play at the moment has its servers in Europe (Germany and the Netherlands) and on a fixed line I get a ping of 200 - 220. Not perfect, but it allows me to play in the upper 30% of the population.
