Yesterday I scored a free account, it even showed it in the client area of the site. Today it shows up as a paid account and the support staff are telling me I missed out on the free accounts. They seem to think I'm talking rubbish about yesterday. What the hell? If I didn't complete the process then how the hell do they think I ended up with a 1Gig account without having provided any payment details?

I cancelled the paid account on the site now, they better not expect me to pay for that. I haven't even logged in to it.

What a waste of my time after dealing with their constant server time-outs yesterday. Anyone else experience something like this?

Edit: Not sure if this or the ISP section of the forum is more appropriate for this, since the free accounts thread is here. Mods feel free to move it.

I just can't believe that 702, SABC, CNN and BBC World are not covering your story. But hey, there is always the "Broadband & IT News Article" Forum...

Well you must have missed it, quick switch to Sky News and you might see it :p

After posting I realised it might have been smarter to put this in the ISP section. Oh well, maybe a moderator will move it.
It is related to the Afrihost free accounts story though, which has a thread here.

And now I get this email from them:

R 3.71? Seriously? They even tried to debit order when I didn't give them any bank details :erm:

You would think they would just cancel all this at the very least, even if they refuse to give me the free account which I'm sure I managed to get.

Uhm, so if they got no bank details from you, how did they debit your account :wtf:

I'm running on my free 1GB now..what a bargain. Thanks Afrihost.

And another one:

A few days ago (31 October) I was told that my account was "completely cancelled". Now I'm expected to pay the bill for November too? :wtf:
Afrihost you are one s**tty company.

Good luck! Your best bet is to pm Moshe (can't remember exact forum name). He tends to help quite quickly. I also had the problem where they gave me free domains last year and then wanted me to pay for them.

this is a lol! having said that, I'm riding with my 1gb account right now...

(drives off in a pink barbie convertible)

Get on the phone/email/twitter with their support team. They are very helpful and do their best to correct their mistakes.

Yea I did try emailing them at the time but that went nowhere. In every reply the staff would basically repeat the same thing and tell me I missed the free account. And did nothing to clear this mess up.
If this was cleared up by the support staff, and they at least cancelled this all, then this thread wouldn't be here. I'm not someone to go running around whining about a problem before I've tried to do something about it.

I've told the staff everything, and it went nowhere. How much more time am I expected to waste with a company I want no business with?

@Maddmatt: I'm sitting in exactly the same situation with charges of the exact same amounts as you have.

Odd seemed to happen to a small percentage of users, my free gig is fine

They are still dishing them out? Can't help wondering what the catch is...
