Afrihost are launching their uncapped offerings next week, let's wait and see if they can turn the tide from MWeb

I wonder how many other companies will follow the eample being set...........

hmm perhaps I should wait & see where this goes ;)

Could we end up with 1/2 the price offered already?

We have more cables coming into the country and with LLU on the cards (hopefully) the next couple of years should be excellent. Provided of course our politicians don't run the country into the ocean by then.

do you think they would mind if we run them into the ocean, so we can make sure we have decent net???

It is going to be interesting to see how WA handle this. They cannot very well go uncapped at a lower price now, since they came right out and said it was not possible. So where to now?

Well, they cannot take that first step until they get their feet out of their mouth.

first the per/Gb war which was nice , now the uncapped war has started
let's start separating the boys from the men , now if only Telkom also decides to
join this party

aka "paint yourself into a corner."

I would love to be a fly on their boardroom wall.

But I do hope they find a way to save themselves.

If I were them I would focus on vastly increasing bandwidth allowances on their standard and complete products and pricing them around or slightly below Mweb uncapped "equivalents". They can then differentiate their service by offering superior bandwidth quality and support to offset the downside of having a bandwidth cap. This would appeal to those who are not looking to download the internet, want superior service, and who don't want any heavy shaping on their traffic. And they really have to slash their top-up prices. Only way I can see them recovering from this.

mmm what do you think Afrihosts prices will be ?

Wait and see :)
Probably the same as MWEB or slightly better (their own words). The real issue here will be what they consider to be fair usage etc etc.

Well, I'm sort of "inbetween" ISP's - my line was moved back to Telkom on the 16th of March 2010, my cap (uncapped with Cybersmart had been cancelled and would be deleted om 31 March 2010). My timing couldn't been more precise. Waiting to see what else is on the table, before I make my final decicion.
