So on the 18th of September Afrihost started experiencing performance issues and blamed an IOS update for the slow speeds. Shortly after this issue was resolved, Afrihost started experiencing performance issues again, blaming high demand on the North IPC as the reason. This issue has remained unresolved since then.

We have a 40mbps business VDSL connection at home and at work and both locations have been super unstable and the internet being utterly unusable at times with speeds less than 1mbps. Both these locations are on different exchanges.

The connections have been unstable at 50% of time im getting results like the ones below. My question is what is Afrihost doing to fix this and why is it taking so long?

At home:

At work:

I think we are all fed up with the horrible performance issues of AH and the empty excuses and promises they are making. At the moment my 10m account can be used for browsing only at best and even that is sluggish sometimes.

This is the worst thing for me. The only reason I got a capped account was to avoid shaping of any kind. I'm starting to think someone should get in touch with the ASA.

Not sure that will yield anything. In SA these services are all 'best effort'.
.

Hey guys, stop with your shaping accusations, they are "optimizing" their network..

If a service has been running less than 10% capacity for almost is month, then that is a no effort service and a refund should be given.

Sadly, you're right. Utter rubbish, in my opinion, but what can we do? I'd love to be in a business where I could always blame Telkom or copper wires for any problems or, alternatively, claim "best effort".

Anyway, like I've said in other threads, Afrihost has until the next billing cycle to improve, otherwise I'm moving over to Web Africa. Been an AH customer for years now, but I just can't take this **** anymore.

C'mon guys, give them a chance to sort this issue out. It doesn't happen every day and their track record has been good.

Generally I'd agree but in this case it seems to be happening more often and for longer periods each time. So something is very wrong somewhere and it seems to be getting worse. The feeling I get is that AH either don't know how to fix it ...or they don't want to fix it (for reasons only known to them) ...or they don't even know what's wrong in the first place :erm:

This is what I get when tracerouting to www.yuotube.com. Seems to go via the UK, ( Bloemfontein sometimes), and then back to JHB.

This started about the same time as their speed problems.

Lets be honest here for a bit. previous problems was mostly confined to uncapped home acc's. I for one and most other customers went for capped and uncapped business acc. because it was promised to be totally unshaped. Reason why you pay more for it. Now these acc's are affected a lot, what the uncapped is like is anybody's question.

I have cancelled my 2 capped acc last month with Afrihost as all I am hearing is they are optimizing their network with software to apply their AUP better. Meaning that all downloads will be effected more and more. So for me I will vote with my wallet all the time, maybe if more people do this we will get better service.

Did you jump ship to another iSP? What is the service like over there? I am looking at the OpenWeb Capped accounts that are being advertised. Seems quite cool and well priced as well.
