Afrihost Is Awesome

Anyone else struggling to browse using Afrihost this evening?

Yip.. locally hosted sites seem OK, although slower than usual. International sites are much slower than usual.

I guess the contention ratio has blown through the roof tonight - its all the last minute people trying to burn their R14.50 per GB topups? I know I'm one of them :D

UPDATE: Busy downloading movie torrentz at 54KBps on my 512kbps line, which has a theoretical maximum of 64KBps (512 / 8).

i cancelled my account .

Found it a bit to creepy having my credit card details and asking my copy of id documents was just to much ...

They could run away with it man :D (ps: I WOULD !!! )

Openweb ftw .... for now

Felt the same way at first cos i was used to just signing up with a CC and then having instant access, but tried it anyways and i must say its been great...

no issues with afrihost tonight, been playing TF2 for 5 hours. hasn't got anything to do with the thick storms in SA atm?

I almost ran away too; I'm quite lucky to have seen this thread coz I would have lost out on a good deal. However, I still think they should notify prospective users that they will ask for their ID copies so that we don't get nasty surprises.

To be honest guys this is the LAW now, RICA ya know. Any company who isn't doing this is a violator.

True, you get some (seemingly made up at times) figure added to your monthly usage when the month resets, but that can be overlooked. What cannot be is the fact that it takes about an hour after midnight for the cap to reset. It's now 24 minutes past midnight on my watch, trying to get work done but the account says that I have 10 GB available (aka account has been reset for the new month) but status remains as 'capped'. So you can have all the data allowance in the world, you still cannot browse anything. Nice work.
