Hello everybody!
I signed up for a 4gb ( 5gb if you include the free 1gb :D ) capped account with Afrihost.
I can now, with a 384k line, play international games at ~200 ping, and download things at a constant ~40kb/s! At the moment I'm playing on a European server, and downloading a music album, and my ping is about 320 and the download is going at a very constant 36kb/s.

I just wanted to say thank you Afrihost for providing such a lovely service :) So thank you :)

Afrihost is the best ISP for capped solutions it seems. Uncapped on the other hand, belongs to Mweb. 3.4TB in the last 12 months. :)

What game are you playing on a 384 line while downloading at 36kb/s? Hearts?

Am I missing something?

Yeah afrihost is tops when it comes to the capped offerings.

Yeah, I'm sorry but I don't see how you can get such low pings while your line is basically maxing its download speed. It seems a bit impossible.

Fluttershy is probably pausing the torrent while he's playing, that's one solution.

And, yes, AH is the awesomesauce for capped accounts!

On the other hand there's one question constantly nagging me: it's the year 2012, so why o why do we still have to bother with capped and local accounts and speeds as low as 384 in the first place???

Well, that issue is being addressed. 384 will be phased out in the next two months.

Haha, not that I'm one of those poor souls still having to deal with 384 but am on a more or less stable 5 MB right now. But still, how dare they even offering that kind of kak? And for ridiculously high prices too? There is something wrong with the underlying system (shareholders first, forget about the bandwith starved population), dontcha think?

I agree with you all, AH seems great for capped products. One thing though, does AH have IPC capacity in Cape Town, my local pings with AH are not great compared to say Webafrica. I hope they improve that in the future.

No they resell IS bandwidth, data center of IS is only in JHB.

I had a similar experience. I could not even play on the local tf2 servers without people freaking out then I changed to Afrihost uncapped. Now I ping around 80 max but normally around 50. I download as much content as I want at night time and don't seem to be throttled then at all. Average around 50-80 gigs a month torrents coming in a pretty slow 100kbps but then my line is only the 512. My net although throttled in the day time works as fast as ever on weekends or after 7 and browsing/youtube is ample at those times. I'd love a faster capped line that could get me the same data but I'll patiently wait for the prices to get more reasonable.
