Afrihost just made me see RED !!!!!

Stopped getting warnings after I installed peerblock. Also I avoid downloading movies and stick to series. I try not to do big season downloads and just do singe episodes.
 
It wasn't really about the torrent but the fact the chap used illegal software. Adobe etc are wisening up to this, they basically use the update service to snitch on people.

1000 % illegal for any international company / service provider etc etc to monitor any bandwidth usage inside SA. Since the hosting server is not in South Africa. Violation of our constitution. So the bigger bullies take it out on the guys like IS / MWEB / Telkom etc and they in turn bully the little guys. Big scare tactics. Waiting for someone to take them to court / constitutional court ... it won't stand a chance.

I share my net & costs with the neighbours.

They connect via secure wifi. Don't sell it or leave it open. Have told AH more than once. They don't have a problem coz i'm not reselling it or letting the whole world DL from it.

Is this really true because when I was with axxess I got the same thing. I told them to SOD off and said they can't monitor my traffic. I never got a reply. I ended up moving because IS sucks ####. I want to know with this RICA thing does this still apply or do they need a warrant to monitor traffic?
 
OP is silent now, feeling guilty ol chum? Look we all do it, just dont get caught eh! And when you do just acknowledge it and move on, far less stress for you and the ISP you just raped and pillaged.
 
So it probably better to use PeerGuardian2 or peerblock than nothing at all I reckon?? Long live downloading!

Just use a VPN service with multiple exits points and torrent friendly; anonymity secured..

Just move to any non IS provider like Mweb uncapped.

I can't find a solid answer anywhere.
Before I post my questions, my situation is that :
I'm currently on an uncapped account with @lantic.
I received an e-mail from them, which was sent from a USA company informing them of my "activities", which happened about 4 months ago.
I'm supposedly on a list now, of people being monitored.... -.-
I've been keeping my internet activities "clean" ever since, basically- no downloading what-so-ever.

Alright my questions are:
Is any one else with @lantic (VOXtelecoms), and have they received the above mentioned letter? And if yes, did you continue, or did you cower like me?
How long do they "monitor" you?
I have access to Newshost sites... are nzb's trackable, or will i be safe?
I need a serious answer please ( No trolls :P)

If you are really paranoid rather use Nzb's as these are about as safe as it gets.For what it's worth these big corporations threatening you via the ISP have no jurisdiction in SA so don't get stressed.
Of course I could be wrong

There is no list of people to be monitored. Its all very simple. When you download a torrent, you connect to many computers, and many computers connect to you. For this to work, you must publish your IP address and what you are downloading. To aid this process, there are what are called 'trackers' which publish your IP address for you. Anyone, including the anti-piracy crowd, can go on the tracker and get your IP address and send you a threatening letter.

However, there is another method of sharing your IP info called DHT which as far as I know does not get monitored by the anti-piracy crowd. Simply remove any trackers from torrents before you start the download and you should not get any more letters. (I certainly haven't).

It should be noted that the legality of the threatening letters is questionable, as the anti-piracy people typically do not actually check that you downloaded anything. It has been proven in the past that one can spoof the IP address and cause threatening letters to be sent to other people, or even devices such as printers etc. Also, the anti-piracy people have admitted sending threatening letters regarding downloads that they do not own the copyright for.

What will you do should somebody download/share some really nasty kiddie porn, and the police comes knocking on your door? That excuse will NOT hold up in court, you WILL be held responsible as the account holder, and WILL get to know "Pappa" in jail. Finish en klaar.

Stop sharing. Or install a proper firewall and block illegal stuff.

If they do, the account holder is responsible for all activity on the connection. When you get your account, you state that you have read the terms and conditions and are agreeing to them. The Afrihost terms and conditions clearly state that you may not download copyrighted material (that you do not have permission from the copyright holder to download.)
