Afrihost local going off it's rocker

I got a 50GB Afrihost account about a month ago and recently i've had huge issues with it.

Firstly, it just disconnects constantly during the weekdays. It'll drop for about 10 minutes then work again.

And now to local servers i have pings of over 1000ms to saix, google(local), IS, myadsl.co.za. Anything local has over a 1000ms. Naturally today and recent international has gone crazy but i dont get why my local is fekked.

Might not be Afrihost - your modem, the exchange in your area, perhaps ?

Have regularly been using Afrihost for the last month & more, and not experiencing the major issues you're reporting on.
 
Yes, line/exchange issue.

Go buy a gig of axxess prepaid (online or at picknpay) & check again. If its the same then its your line.

Alternatively, post line info here.
 
Well, i was on Telkom prior the Afrihost account and that never gave any issues.

I'm on 8mb.
Noise margin: 11.6 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 27.1 dB (upstream)

Those are the readings off my modem. Aren't amazing but i haven't had an issue until recently.
 
What is their backbone then, pure Seacom or some redundancy?

That price only lasts for another 2 days though..

Or use cybersmart bandwidth via a branded internet BISP.

50GB Cybersmart Bandwidth @ R450 = Unshaped internet

ALL using cybersmart bandwidth. Check under Lite adsl. All exactly the same. So just choose one and there you go! :)
 
ya so far as i know it is IS

btweb is IS , only one i used so far as i got it free :P

edit: cool did not know they were :P, but they probably not restored service for that price?

I've had similar issues and being on my first month (50Gb package as well) thought it was my line seeing as it's been bumped up to 8Mbit. Every now and then I have to reboot the router to get connectivity else it's dog slow...

Could not agree more, however it is expensive for what it is...
