Most of my clients & servers on Afrihost were down from 00:38 to 06:26 - this morning they all have shiny new IP Addresses on the MTN Business Solutions address range 105.236.0.0/24.

I do hope people don't confuse this with MTN Mobile - I'm sure somebody else will elaborate on the technical details.

I can only imagine that this must've been a MAJOR move for Afrihost and that few - if any of their network administrators have had any sleep last night!

Afrihost guys - thanks for fighting for us for affordable and quality bandwidth. Here's to my faith in your ability to do things right!

Anybody noticing anything else different?

Hmmm my Free 1Gb account does not want to connect , checked the client zone , says account is active and the password is correct , maybe try after work.

I notice that Google queries are routed directly to one of Google's overseas datacenters via Amsterdam... I suppose that means an extra 250ms of latency until MTN upgrades their peering at CINX.

Haven't used it much yet but I see that World of Warcraft latency is about double what it was when we were using IS. I'm hoping its just teething problems and that it will get better.

Morning Guys

So this is the story - Telkom did not allocate enough IP addresses from the MTN range to be able to allow everyone to authenticate properly. It being resolved now, we expect absolutely everyone to be fixed and sorted out by midday today.

For now you can use the @afrihost.co.za to @afrigamer.co.za username change to get immediately online. This workaround will stay in place until 5pm today, by which time these problems should be entirely resolved.

We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience.

Oh thats why i could not connect :P

I could not connect this morning either. I hope it's resolved by the time I get home tonight.

And I'm very worried about my gaming latencies (WoW) - Like Nick_K, I also hope it's just teething problems... I'm not a fan of MTN and in all honesty would rather not support them if I can help it. The only reason I haven't moved yet is because Afrihost themselves has really given me good service.

208ms on d3 at the moment

Morning guys,

The problem, as someone posted from another thread, is to do with IP assignments from Telkom BRAS, which was not setup correctly on their side. Should be fixed in a couple of hours as they add new IP addresses from the MTN range.

Otherwise, it's been fairly smooth and users reporting some pretty insanely good speeds so far :)

No problems here almost hit 9 Mbps (local, but that was a MTN server)with one of my test, But I tested some local sites like telkom/saix and neotel which was slower I don't think they got proper peering because then i hit about 4Mbps while if i do an international speedtest I seem to be hitting about 5/6mbps (which actually used to be slightly faster before)

Wait till all the users can actually connect, speeds are gonna drop then

Our offices in Cape Town cannot connect. :(

The keep rebooting their router, but no connection to Afrihost.

Funnily enough, we are connected just fine here in Joburg.

I also had a problem connecting from my house in Alberton this morning.

Gotta be honest. On my uncapped business, browsing and email is way quicker. Streaming videos, now actually 'stream', as opposed to limping along.... Hope it stays like this :)

That's some serious gloom you're spreading there :(

I'm never too optimistic about promises about better speeds in SA as it's normally the opposite, who knows I might be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I have had to deal with MTN NS in the past and my experiences have all been rather disappointing.

It depends on which area you're in, and whether Telkom has assigned IP ranges sufficiently in that area. It should no longer be an issue once they have assigned the full MTN range on BRAS servers.

I'm hoping for pleasantly surprised, so far guys are posting redonkulously good speeds. But always good to wait and see, let's hope we'll get it right for you as well.

Hi,
I must honestly say that I havent had bad service from Afrihost and Afriman has been helpful.
I am just concerned and sceptical like everyone else.

The test account that Afriman gave me worked like a charm, but yesterday I had constant drops in connectivity with me having to restart my router every 5 - 7 minutes.

When I get home I will change my account details to my old uncapped account which now has been moved to MTN.

What speeds are the guys getting atm?
