Mine seems to be even worse now :/

Not even getting a connection when using the afrihost APN.

My own APN connection seems to be up at the moment, could you try to switch to Airplane Mode, then back to regular signal connectivity, this should then force a re-authentication on our system. If this fails, could you please send me a PM with your account details so that I can check on my side.

Any idea yet what caused this issue?

It didn't seem to be one common issue - some clients reported no voice on MTN, other MyMTN APN worked while others now.
Probably a general glitch, the APN didn't want to seem to authenticate. I'll let you know once our team has passed on more info :)

From what we understand there was a hardware issue in Randburg, but it was restored early yesterday afternoon when services were restored. Clients were only affected in the North, and not all clients were affected. Some were able to have access, others could access MTN while many clients could not access MTN, Afrihost or Axxess.

Dear African
I have on this thread informed you what my problem is. I am now for weeks been sitting with connection issues on mobile data and having speeds of around 0.25mbps which you can't even use. Yest everyman th you people still debit money from me for data allocated to me that I can't use.
I have contacted your support team countless times and Al they can do is either apologies or tell me there's a general problem with connectivity in the area. No help no solution.
You in boxed me a link to follow so that I can complete a form to send to mtn which I did but it's been two weeks and no response from mtn.
Do you think it's fair for you people to take people for a ride in this manner? What can you do to solve this as you call yourself Afriman?

Speaking as an end user just like you I must say if you currently don't have good coverage it's unfortunate as there's not much that can be done unless MTN is willing to take action. An alternative is to get a 3g (or preferably an LTE router like the Huawei b593) which supports external antennas and see if you'll get better results using a high gain antenna. I've seen a big performance boost on LTE even without external antennas. It's unfortunately the reality of mobile internet

MTN are definitely willing to take action. I've seen them investigate and offer solutions in many cases where coverage queries have been dealt with by their team. In some cases they've installed antennas (at their own cost) which has hugely improved performance in the area.

We have to follow the coverage process though, they need the right information to act on.

That's definitely a pretty horrible. It sounds like you my be getting EDGE reception where you are. How does this correspond with the MTN coverage map on our website?

I can also escalate the Coverage Query you sent in, but bear in mind that they usually ask at least 8 working days to address queries (I imagine the volume of queries they get is insane)

I'm currently in Sandton on Grayston drive:

Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
Packets: Sent = 198, Received = 145, Lost = 53 (26% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 246ms, Maximum = 3868ms, Average = 787ms

Afrihost with huawei mifi

Using the MTN apn on my phone is fine. Whats up?

That latency
The MiFi device doesn't have a radio as strong as a phone does, try moving it around to pick up a better overall signal on the device :)

Sorry, I wasn't clear, I had to switch from the Afrihost APN on my phone to the MTN one. I can't browse on my phone using the Afrihost APN but the MTN one is fine

That's very strange, both APNs run through the same infrastructure.
Could you PM me your number please? I'll be able to have a closer look at the account logs from there.

The website indicates there is coverage where I stay in maitland. It's been two weeks and no feedback from mtn. I don't think there will be feedback. Can I try the mtn afrihost sim in my phone and set APN to afrihost then do WiFi tethering? If yes what are the full settings?

Yes, you can put the SIM in any device (if the SIM size is compatible) and then change the data APN on your phone to "afrihost" (no password is required). You may also want to check if your device has a specific APN for tethering, as some devices (like iPhones) default to your main APN for tethering, even with data APN set to another SP.

My LTE has been patchy with Afrihost... Quite disappointing. It seems like where I use to have full signal, I have none now.
