I am very unsatisfied with the speeds I am getting with MTN network .

I have a 7.2mb dongle and 8ta branded, I am getting better download speeds with the slower 8ta modem than the afrihost/MTN 21mb mifi router.

Both Afrihost/MTN and 8ta have full signal between 97-99%

This clearly shows that 8ta is far superior to MTN.

imho - 8ta is the way to go ..

Think i am canceling this deal due to the cr@p speed im getting on this 21mb mifi router compared to the speeds I get on the standard 7.2mb E173 8ta dongle.

I have also been gaming with my 8ta network and have had no problems, in fact my ping has been better than a lot of people with adsl lines. But with Mtn it is spiking quite frequently. Ping seems ok but not stable at all..

Obviously this is network related and MTN should up there game...

Sorry to see that you aren't happy with our Mobile goodies :(
Could you please keep trying with our SIM and MiFi device, sometimes you just need to run into a sweet spot to see the really awesome speeds.

I have been using 8ta(telkom) for the last 2 years and I have become use to they way their network performs, I am simply stating that MTN is not on par with them..

You explain faster speed with 8ta in a slower modem? I did not say MNT doesnt work , only stating that they are behind in performance compared to 8ta.

and having 99% signal strength is pretty much the sweet spot.. wouldnt you agree?

Unfortunately it's a bit of a tricky comparison, some networks may be faster than others in different areas. It's all down to the coverage in your area.
Have you tried our MiFi device and SIM in a different area to run some tests?

5 hours went by and my device is still on 75% battery, which is quite good.. expecting it to last another couple of hours. Maybe because I am in an area with 2G only signal?

Very satisfied so far - great speeds, battery life.

Finally an "impulse buy" that worked out :)

Guess what ppl. My mifi simcard is not working. Know why because I got the wrong simcard and someone is using my data. Im paying for this mifi and I cant use it. And my data is been used by "I don't know who". On top of that the consultant calls me making me do tests, the whole day, and at the end of the day he says he will call me again tomorrow. Since last week Thursday my mifi has not be working and my data is been used.

Afrihost will double you up. Don't worry.

I ordered my Afrihost 5gb sim today online. When will I be receiving it? My 8ta data is about to run out and I'm scared of being without internet.

Afriman any plans to create a 20GB or 30GB capped monthly service? I see this as a great alternative to ADSL.

THIS!!!! PLEASE!!! IT WOULD KILL MTN, VODACOM AND CELL C IF YOU DO IMPLEMENT THESE PLANS :D

Yes, yes, yes, please.
Add a cheap LTE modem in there and you have a deal

Yeah, that's not cool at all. We're still seeing a few of these types of incidents popping up, and our Dev team are working on strategies to rectify this. Please drop me a PM. If we can establish which number you are connecting on, we'll add some data until we sort this problem out :(

Eish... hope it can get sorted out!

We'd love to create some high end packages eventually. The growth potential on Mobile Data is really exciting. If we can get the uptake on the products to where we'd like (and so far so good) we think Mobile could even eventually overtake DSL subscription (there is already a national trend in this direction)
