I have no doubt that your wholesale buy price is high as all South African networks keep their data artificially high.

A classic comparison is say, GiffGaff UK with 2000 Anytime minutes, unlimited SMS and UNLIMITED data! Just £20 per month!

I don't know what the costs are for the source network. I also think the interconnectivity prices for external networks are probably higher for us with the exchange rates, but I think they do realise that it's in everyone's interests to bring costs down wherever they can.

Hi Afriguy.

I am frustrated by the kids at home hogging data and the office staff downloading whatever they can. I need more data!

Since all local infrastructure got cut, dug up and hauled off to some wicked scrapyard we do not have the option of ADSL anymore.

Looking here on on MBB just the last 4 days, two other companies have announced much much much lower packages, will you guys match up? I do not need you to exceed, just to get in line.

I can now get the same 20gb package for R299.00. It may be contract, but, I can get 80gb for only R48.00 more per month!

I was disappointed by the photos of posh offices, really.

Hi Kenny, the photos of our office were really not intended to offend. Sorry if you felt that way.

At the moment our main focus is on sorting out our DSL network issues and making sure that is performing where it should be.

Our prices are definitely still competitive for month to month offer without a long term obligation. My feeling is always that you may find a great price now, but being in contract means you won't be able to change if there is a better price 6 months down the line. Considering we're close to the end of the year, it's very likely that we'll have some new stuff on the table soon, and it would be terrible if you weren't able to take advantage of those offers. But ultimately it's up to you :)

Hi Mr AfriMan,

It's been three days since I signed up for mobile data and I'm still waiting for my SIM to be provisioned. Whats up with that?

My Afrihost Huawei E5331 MiFi is not holding a decent charge anymore. After asking around at the local stockists no one knows where to get batteries for the thing. Eventually tracked down the distributor in Jhb but they can only courier an new one to me for about R350!

I'm not too impressed with the support, was looking at a Huawei Mate 7 but if they do not support their products then, well maybe not.

I heard a rumour that an old Nokia battery fits and does the job. Anyone else has the same or has solved it?

Hey there

Sorry about the wait. Did you use a debit order as your payment method? It can take up to five working days for the payment to clear on our side before we can provision a new SIM.

I wouldn't recommend using an unapproved product officially, it's always best to stick with branded replacements. The Huawei battery is pretty standard across that generation of devices, I'm surprised that Vodacom or MTN don't carry them (if you've tried them already) but you should find cell shops carrying new or refurbished units :(

The android mobile app still asks for a login after a reboot of the phone. Most annoying, as I always forget the password and first need to look it up again. Can this not be fixed that the remember me option actually remembers me?

We are working on a way to make this a little more easy to manage. Just also make sure you are using the official Afrihost app. Apparently there is a "fan" app somewhere :(

Help Please

Hey Afriman,

I've been struggling since with getting back on the 4G network all day. After a few calls to support, I'm still not getting any joy.

This morning, the device said no signal, called support and they re-provisioned the account.
I've reset my router, deleted and recreated the APNs

I currently have 3G signal but no throughput.

Please can you have a look at my account ?

My Connection came back up last night, but down again this morning...

This is becoming a real problem ...

Thanks for the update.

I was out and about yesterday, and used my mobile data all the while, definitely had no problems, though I was on Edge for some time. I managed to use Whatsapp call a few times so I think service was pretty normal (didn't test much further).

Could it be specific to your area?

I'm in Fish Hoek in the southern suburbs...

Leaving the device off for about 3-4 hours has seemed to fix the problem this time, but I've been plagued with duplicate session trouble and continuous re-provisioning.

It may be the device in that case, have you tested with a different device?
