I stupidly ported one of my numbers to MTN so that I could take advantage of Afrihost data!

All worked well until the first morning (and every morning since) when I get a MTNReward message at anywhere between 5.30am and 6.30am, which is not my idea of fun. This is in breach of the Electronic Communications Act, because MTN give no opt-out option in this message!

Having communicated with MTN (I use the term loosely) I was told to use *130*601# and when that didn't work to use *130*603# and you can guess, that didn't work either!

I looks like there is no one at MTN who can give a competent answer, so I have raised a complain with ICASA.

Do you guys know of any secret codes or do I have to port away again and give up on using Afrihost data on my handset?

Solution Found by guesswork!

When I ported my number to MTN it was primarily done so that I could get the benefit of Afrihost data! So, I recharged the SIM with a few hundred Rand and set up Afrihost data and all was great until the barrage of early morning SMS's started (some as early as 4.30am) and as outlined MTN have no clues how to stop said messages!

The fix was to simply recharge with R5 or airtime to satisfy MTN's greed to get money... Good doggy! Sit!!

No more SMS's since 10th - Obvious now, but it still does not explain why MTN don't know or why this cr*p is in breach of the law, so I've kept the ICASA case open.

I'm not really sure having to topup is a solution though. I'm confident if you bring this to MTN's attention they'll have it resolved.

I'm finding lately that I am having a lot of problems on the Network. My iPad is linked to the Mifi router and it will say "no internet". I sometimes "luck out" by restarting the Mifi. I thought the mifi was becoming faulty, but when I put my telkom sim with 1gb of data in the modem, it worked perfectly. I have reported it so many times to Afrihost, and they have reset it, done various things to it, but still, it loses internet connectivity. Anyone else experience this? I'm thinking of just cancelling at this point.

Sorry to hear :( Sounds like the signal quality being received here isn't the best.
Are you seeing this in multiple areas?

MTN signal is very strong where I live and work. And yes, seeing it at work and home.

This had now been going on for 6 hours and just seems to be getting worse! Surely there is better info than we have available!

Are there international connectivity issues on MTN?

I have huge problems on MTN with several International sites but no problem with Telkom ADSL or Cell C Mobile data...

There are I'm afraid :(
We're seeing traffic links degraded across the country. We're working closely with MTN to have this fixed up ASAP.

The issue was initially reported at around 8am this morning.
