So basically i can not use my blackberry with the afrihost apn?

My iPhone is in for repairs so I'm using the sim in my old Blackberry. I've set the APN and its working.
In client zone it shows that my device is active.

I only cannot use BBM, Facebook and Twitter because its looking for BIS which I no longer have. FB and Twitter does still work when I'm connected to wifi.
Whatsapp works all the time. Unfortunately I'll never be able to finish my remaining 3Gb of data with this Crapberry.

I am not aware of a way - besides BBM won't work with the Afri APN so too all your other services like e-mail etc that use BIS. Not even if you create a wifi hotspot will the Afri APN work - the BB defaults to myMTN. The only way is to tether the bb as modem - this will invoke Afri APN from the TCP/IP while still on the BB APN. Which means you will have to carry a laptop everywhere you go to use both APN's together.

The Afri and Blackberry.net APN's can't run concurrently unless as a modem

What you can do, however, is to load a dual sim service on to your contract. Have two sims operating under the same contract. One in the BB with BIS the other loaded with Afri APN in your other device - If you need more info ask.

Ok so basically by just putting the apn afrihost in it won't work as long as my bis is still active. The dual sim route is an option but luckily I am upgrading on tuesday to an htc one. Maybe then I won't have this problem any more and I can get rid of this rubbish blackberry

Ok, if that is your route then you need not worry about dual SIM.

Also, Call 808 and ask them to deactivate the default APN (myMTN/internet) from your SIM, the handset then cannot use data off MTN even if it reverts to the myMTN. Thats what I did and I feel 'safer' not risking going OOB.

Yeah BIS will work in the BB with the myMTN deactivated.

BIS uses "blackberry.net' APN - this is loaded onto the blackberry device with service books pushed from the carrier (MTN) - you can't manually set it. It will always remain as long as your BIS subscriptions remains active. So, no need to enter any myMTN APN yourself.

myMTN = R2 MB OOB.

Make sure you tell them the ''default'' (myMTN/Internet) APN. They must refrain from interfering with the Afrihost one. Your BIS one will stay - they cant remove it anyway it's bolted to your contract -if one day you return to Blackberry the BIS will still work.

How to boost your mifi 3g signal if you are only getting Edge indoors and the shops are closed and your Afrihost Business ADSL has been on the frits for 5 weeks :

IP67 Enclosure with a Afrihost Mifi device inside, hangin on a unused Wifi grid, gives me full 5 bar signal strength and about 500KB/s download speeds, where I normally only get edge.

removing the grid feed and centering the mifi would probably give even better results

I just received my new LTE SIM from Afrihost, plugged it in and was overcome with 'PURE JOY' that it worked flawlessly the first time. I am impressed with the level of service I received as well... Keeping me up to date with SMS's and eMails, even on the weekend. Ordering was painless, waiting a minimal time-period was painless and their choice of courier was painless... KUDOS!!! All I did to request LTE was post a comment on their FaceBook page!
