I honestly have to advise people to empower themselves here. You have a directional antenna and an app to provide you with signal strength.

Divide the direction into four quadrants and check signal gain in each direction. It's not like you have to make micro adjustments. I moved my antenna like 1m to the left and lost 1dBm.

You want massive gains, not a couple dBm. Example: I had my antenna pointed in the wrong direction. Flipped it around and gained 30dBm. From there I could make very small gains which are hardly worth the effort.

Other stuff will naturally count - like a 3m mast and no direct blocks like buildings.

I will try this, it is going to be the only way to get something done. Thank you

Unfortunately we don't have that info - as mentioned here, the best way to figure this out will be to test in your location where you get the strongest signal :(

Thanks, I will try and figure out where to point the antenna. I understand that you may not have the locations of the towers because it belongs to MTN. It is just a pity that service providers regard the locations of their towers as a big secret. I even tried MTN but they didn't even reply to my email, just shows how much customer relations means to them. The only company that was very helpful was Telkom Mobile, they gave me the co-ordinates of both the towers that I may be connecting to.

Just remember, allow around 30 seconds before making any adjustments.

The other thing if you cannot see any towers from your roof is to just drive around. The MTN towers are clearly marked. I've mapped all the towers in my area like this without much issue. The obvious locations are shopping centres, churches and schools.

I'm being redirected to the "capped" page yet when I log into client zone I am told I have 8+GB data available.

Anybody else experience the same?

Are you still having issues with this? Drop me a PM if you're still getting these errors :(

Hi AfriGuy - nope sorted out. I sent an email to support Sat-evening and your staff responded via email at 2:23 AM Sunday morning to say they checked and everything seemed fine on their side. So still not sure what the problem was and whether they fixed something but it worked Sunday morning when I checked again.

Kudos to Phemelo for the reply and service at that hour!

I had the same issue on Friday, I also had lots of data remaining. I turned my mifi device off for about 5 seconds and then turned it back on - all fine again.

This is odd indeed. Drop me a PM with the reference number and I'll take a look at what work was done to get this sorted :)

Tried this - no effect. Though I use my Afrihost data in a router with a 3G dongle - not actually in the Mifi. Could be that I got the same IP since it was late at night and I only disconnected/reconnected the specific connection - didn't power off the whole story.

Hello. The correct price for the device is R996, the price on the website is correct. If you sign up for a mobile package and purchase a mifi device at the same time, then the device will be R796

Hey guys, maybe someone can help me.

i have a blackberry 9900 and have signed up to afrihost, my account is upto date and i have data to use. I can not for the life of me get my blackberry to work with afrihost. I put the sim into a Samsung Tab and it works fine but not on my blackberry.

The sim is my own mtn contract sim and it works fine in a tablet but not on my phone.

I have tried contacting everyone possible and no one seems to be able to help, maybe some here has had the same problem as me and can help.

I have gone through the online setup, reset my phone, checked the web and been on almost every afrihost post and cant find a thing to help me solve this problem.

I've tried that - no chance on a Blackberry. The service books are set in stone with the myMTN APN.
