Afrihost Mobile Feedback Thread

Hi Afriman,

I'm not sure where else to turn. All Afrihost users at Fancourt (George) have been offline since Sunday 23 March. It would appear that the tower is not accepting their 3G connections.
Error on Afrihost Mifi devices: No signal.

If there's any way that you guys could help escalate this issue with MTN it would be *highly* appreciated, as phonecalls and even tweets at MTN_support are all fruitless thus far.

I realize it's MTN infrastructure, but unfortunately the users only see the Afrihost logo on the Mifi's and things are getting very dire.
Thanks in advance.

Lets see what we can organise here :)
Have you submitted any info to our Support team yet?

Hi AfriMan,

I haven't personally, but other fancourt residents have called the support line.

It's 100% the tower. Drive out about 2km and it works perfectly anywhere else. Get to fancourt and you have no signal.

Feels rather useless to give you my client zone details or afrihost sim details, as I'm not there the whole time.

I could send you a contact number of a chap who should be there most of the day if that'll help, but in short mtn just needs to "fix it!" :)

Guaranteed not a Mifi setup issue. Tested with 3 different Mifi units, one being the LTE version. None works at Fancourt, all work anywhere else.

Thanks in advance!

I got my Afrihost mobile LTE stick yesterday, this one image sums it all up.

Clearly I am not getting what I paid for and the coverage website states that I am comfortably inside the 3G (2100) and LTE coverage area.

@AfriGuy - How do I go about getting a FULL refund on my purchase?

Hey Man,

Does the device show LTE? It's on MTN's network so wherever you have MTN signal you should have AH signal :)

Also - you need to contact support and get them to provision your sim for LTE (takes an hour or two)

I purchased the LTE usb stick and the SIM shows LTE enabled on it as well. I did phone Afrihost yesterday at about 6pm to move me to the LTE side.

I tried it again this morning and I still only get the flashing green. It never stays solid either...

Okay Cool :)

If you look in the connectivity software (i'm assuming there is one) - which form of connectivity does it show? What happens if you force it to LTE?

I'll have to give it another try this afternoon. I'm not at home right now.

I have zero faith in SA internet, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Hey there

I guess towers do go down and get maintained, so it's kind of par for the course. We don't really have much info on which towers cover which areas, so that is maintained directly by MTN. I guess the way to proceed would be to involve their coverage team, if it's not sorted out within a few days.

Remember that coverage is a function of both available signal and demand for data. I would suggest that we start by completing the MTN coverage enquiry process, so that they can investigate if and why you would be receiving diminished service within the coverage area.

It can take up to 72 hours to activate LTE, but you would know when your devices signal indicator starts displaying the LTE sign.

I'm already signed up to a monthly package (7gb...3+4). What's the cheapest way to get a LTE capable device? Can I sign up to another Afrihost package that offers a free device then cancel a month later? Are there any options?

We're not offering devices for free - yet ;)

You can buy an LTE device on a 12 month payment plan, works out very affordably and we don't charge any interest or admin fees :)

How about no? I am not going through this nonsense. I've had enough trouble with internet in SA and I'm done with it.

AfriMan / AfriGuy, I am requesting a FULL REFUND of the package back into my account and all future debit orders suspended. I tried the LTE stick again and it's still only Edge, and not even that is at full strength, it hovers between 2 bars and 3 bars. Even though it claims I sit comfortably in 3G (2100) and LTE coverage, the website is deceiving

Filling out that mtn page will amount to absolutely nothing, so I'm not going to bother. I can already guess their response.

Sorry to hear the product hasn't worked out for you :(
I think the best option is to apply for our money back guarantee www.afrihost.com/site/page/60_day_complete_satisfaction_guarantee

Hi Afriguy or Afriman, I have a little problem with Afrihost mobile...
I use it for playing Diablo 3 and recently I can't play at all, the latency ingame is very high which causes major lag an unplayability.
I have an alternative connection that is MTN and I can play fine with excellent signal, but I can't play with it all the time due to very low cap.
I use the same device for either sim cards to connect.
And as I understand you and MTN use the same towers, so why can't the signal be the same?
Please help me! Because if this continues as it is I have no choice but to cancel

EDIT: Waaaaiiittt.... Didn't I read a few days ago about D3 server issues? Ill try find it

EDIT2: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/10218662808 - might be related to an undersea cable breakage up in the UK between the Blizzard Servers?

Anyone else with a very slow connection the last two days? I'm in cpt, southern suburbs. Phoned AH tech support last night & they reported no problem on their end but this connection is really dodgy at the moment. Can't do much of anything. I've had no change in hardware / software that might affect this.
