ok this is my experience.
at home:
mtn map shows full 3G coverage. the device shows red bars on its display. i can connect, but the web interface shows poor connection, 2G.
same device, with 8ta sim: same thing.
same 8ta sim in another device at home: 3G, 3 Bars on this other devices app.

at work, mate here next to me, has full 3G mtn signal.
same red bars at above with e5331 device.. but can connect and speedtest shows 50kBps download speed. sigh..
popped in the 8ta sim to the e5331, and spedtest shows over 400kBps download speed..

i have never seen the signal bars in any other color than red. werent they supposed to go green? atleast with the 8ta sim in?

what am I doing wrong here guys?
or is the mtn network that messed up for my specific locations (midrand and fourways should have TOP shelf signal btw..) or is the device somewhat.. faulty??

If it was the device, then the 8ta test would also have been slow/problematic. Was the signal strength light green or red with the 8ta SIM?

Might be your SIM... but can also be the MTN network.

What happens if you put the Afrihost SIM into the other 3G device at home?

Something is weird, yeah the mifi device is fine. I popped in a vodacom prepaid and got over 7mbps.. yet with MTN almost zero - 2g.
Also have MTN on my phone and shows H+ at the same location. So I don't know.

Try changing your DNS to 8.8.8.8 (on a laptop or tablet) and try again.

I just did, made a big difference...

Hi guys

We're experiencing some DNS issues at the moment, our team are working on getting this resolved as soon as possible.

Probably explain the poor speeds some of us got at some locations...

Will try again and post revised speed tests.

Something is wrong, all of a sudden none of my devices (iPhone or iPad) is able to connect to the interwebz via the MiFi device. It says connected it's connected wirelessly, but I can't browse the net or download my mail? My colleague who also has a MiFi device says his is working fine.

To change DNS settings on your iPad's WIFI connection, follow this link : http://www.macinstruct.com/node/452

Thanks buddy, but my question still remains, why all of a sudden do I have to change the DNS settings as it was working "out-of-box" since yesterday.

Because there's DNS issues :

Thanks for helping me cover The_Librarian :) +32 internet points for you!

Our Engineers have implemented a fix which will see the DNS server issue rectified. Shouldn't be long now.
