Couldn't agree more and I protect my number with passion, yet still they slip through. We should be able to submit a number like "Mr Jonathan" and the number is blocked or some such thing

Data only number are unfortunately recycled in some cases. And some of these SMS spam types use number generators to randomly send their stuff out.

It's an unfortunate reality of the digital age :(

Hey! Just noticed that top-ups are two for one now! You should really advertise that on your site, as it shows 1GB for R99 when it is in fact 2gb for R99

This has already been mentioned few times, begin of the month, last week.
Also they did mention it in their press release. *News Room* http://www.afrihost.com/site/newsroom
PS happens middle of the month only.

Then the general public should take action and create a hall of shame website. Paste all the necessary information etc, those who are found guilty, should have their numbers deleted..

They do this for a living - people are gullible/ignorant & sometimes they will fall prey, actually believe they won. Then the other party will want to know personal information about you, example, ID number etc.

They hang on social networks as well & if you exchange your number details they start to spam you :)

There is an ISPA hall of shame for spammers. I have to say that in my experience it doesn't really prevent these guys from getting services. And that's just in SA. Anyone is free to host with an overseas company, and then there is really not much that can be done.

I am amazed though by people who have spammed so much with various companies that they are listed individually. That must take dedication ;)

That's a good point, we could definitely make this more prominent. We'll chat to our web design team and get it up on our main page when top-ups are active. I know we also planned at some point to do more broadcast messaging in ClientZone at one stage. This would be the perfect type of message that everyone needs to know :)

All of a sudden I cannot connect with the mifi to the internet. It shows full signal, battery is full but when trying to connect it says "No internet access" Any ideas ? It was working fine and just stopped all of a sudden.

Go to mifi.afrihost.com and check that the device is connected. I've seen that some people haven't set their Mobile Connection back to Auto after changing settings, and the device won't automatically go online every time you switch it on, you have manually hot a connect button on the main page of the web interface :(

It is on Auto...it was connecting late last night but the connection was extremely slow...it did not even want to open webpages. Tried the sim in a modem with the same results

That little device is neat. My wife was sceptical about using it - used the excuse that she was worried she'd lose it.
Then they stole the phone lines to my wife's office (again), so I set up the Mifi on her laptop and showed her how easy it is to use.
Seems I'm not getting it back again. Its faster than her MTN dongle and seriously impressing the other agents.

One observation though - mifi.afrihost.com does not seem to work in her browser - shows that no device is connected, but I get in if I use the IP address?

Thanks for the awesome feedback, just sorry to hear that your MiFi device seems to be hi-jacked ;) You can always order the LTE device and have the upper hand with speeds!
Anyway, strange about the mifi site not working - could you please DM me with some more info on this and I'll take a look on our end.

My housemate got hers yesterday. I set it up for her with a spare mifi device I have lying around. I was struggling to bum off and eventually I told her that I think the sim is not connected yet as it does not want to make a data connection. She was shattered and looked at me with sad puppy eyes .... and just as I took my first sip of whisky I had a light bulb moment. CHANGE THE APN YOU STUPID KNOB!

Speed test from within my room yeilded about 5mbps. When router is closer to her room it gives about 1.5mbps.

LOL - awesome story! I think there must be a few great MiFi anecdotes out there. How I searched for my WiFi password is one of my favourites - I can relate cos it happened to me too :)

When I received mine, I was so eager to start it up, i forgot to put the sim in. :(

I received my Mifi on Friday the 6th September, charged it up and use it between an hour and 2 hours every day to check mail and browse a bit via my phone. Today is the first time I have to charge it again.

Very very impressed:D

We feel you, it can get intense when it arrives :)

The first one I turned on did not want to work because I inserted the sim the wrong way around.... :o
I also mis-interpreted the power-saving feature of the device at first ... could not understand why the mifi did not want to stay on :o

Got mine today but it's not working.

I'll be using the sim in a D-Link 3G router. For testing purpose I'm using my old nokia E72. I can send and receive SMS messages. I did change the APN to afrihost. Whenever I try to connect to internet, it just say "connection not available". Does Afrihost still need to activate the data maybe or should it work?

I dont want to start complaining right away as I can see that the majority of users are happy. Can anybody shed some light on this, please!!

Loving my mifi. I have used it in my car for streaming internet radio and works great most of the time, but signal does drop from time to time and this is in Durban. Not Afrihost's fault though. Otherwise 100% happy with it.
