Out of curiosity. What phone are you using? Is there sufficient 3G coverage where you are? What about 2G/Edge?

Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G.

How strong is your reception. I have a similar issue, but on Vodacom. I am between 2 towers and in my office if i move from one side to the other the call will drop. I also miss calls - caller gets a message that "the caller is not available on the vodacom network". Get a sms about a missed call 30 mins to an hr later

I have resorted to using VoWifi with Vodacom and that has resolved my issue.

I have never had a coverage problem in 6 years at this location, whether the network has sufficient capacity or not, only MTN / Afrihost can tell.

Perhaps try Pi by MTN, as they support VoLTE & VoWiFi, so that might help to say if you're running into issues with the switch back (4G/LTE > 3G) to receive incoming calls.

Another “missed call” this morning 30.09.2026 at 07H37 from my Afrihost VOIP number.
Did not ring, went straight to voicemail.
Handset was on the network because an OTP had just come through.
A subsequent call from the same number at 07H42 went through and did ring.

The problem is intermittent, and has nothing to do with the handset.

Perhaps try Pi by MTN, as they support VoLTE & VoWiFi, so that might help to say if you're running into issues with the switch back (4G/LTE > 3G) to receive incoming calls.

My service provider is Afrihost Air Mobile, they use MTN's network. I am not going to go through the pain of switching back to MTN to try a new service. MTN must fix their network. If I switch it will be to Vodacom.

Good luck then. As critical stuff like VoLTE and VoWiFi is not enabled for AirMobile from the start, and Afrihost cannot provide any insight into when it will be enabled.

Yet, Pi by MTN (also virtual mobile network) runs on the same MTN network and has got those 2 features enabled by default.

At least trying it out you can compare and validate for yourself. Plus you only pay R1 for the first 3 months

+1 Pi no longer uses DSV to deliver. They use RTT. Took 2 days from JHB to Rural KZN for delivery.

Pi works flawlessly, plus you have data that never expires and keeps rolling over, VoLTE and WiFi Calling both work 100%.

Very happy with Pi.

Might not.
MTN has restrictions on VoWiFi.
The serving ISP needs to be on the MTN approved list. So their IP ranges are whitelisted to use VoWiFi.

Vodacom and Telkom, VoWiFi works on any service provider.
