Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Thank goodness I don't need it for gaming. I think I would rage quit.

I only play WoW. It's chill out time and a way to forget about the woes of the world for a mo'
At my age many folk would find that odd - fortunately I care rocks what the world thinks.

@MirageF1: If you open one of the articles on dailymail.co.uk do the pictures load instantaneously or do you have to wait a long time? Have you tried doing a Speedtest to Vodafone in London (www.speedtest.net)?

Unfortunately not. 15th is the cut off. So still have to pay for March.
I have had these issues since around 10 Feb 2020. So it has been more than a few days for me. Lol.
The (lack of) support is what killed it for me.

You can probably change your mind before the end of March if speeds improve. Hopefully they will fix the issue if they see that new customers are beginning to cancel.

Almost immediately yes....it is not locally cached like Netflix, DSTV, iol etc so wouldn't be instantaneous.

My speeds are generally v fast...80-95/15-20 Mbps dl/ul

my ping has been having timeouts for the past 2 weeks like this. Not sure if its still the ocean cable issue?

Apparently everything is awesome:

I am going to stop now. I am starting to sound like a bitter old fart.

Maybe then it's only in a certain geographical area as it sounds as though your connection is still working fine. You were always getting very good speeds though!

As you can see, acceptable really for peak time Saturday night from Southern tip of Africa. dl's usually 2-3 times that even work nights but I'm not complaining.

Tried Telkom or Cell C fixed LTE?
Decent signal in your area?

I just dont understand why every single option for internet starts out normal then after a month or two turns into something unbearable. With all the troubleshooting I have tried to do myself I can propably pass a masters degree in networks.

Many thanks for the Speedtest. Your international speeds are still very good!

I am still hoping that the problem is going to disappear as I have only noticed it in the last week or so. Otherwise I will probably switch to Telkom Mobile which was slower than the Pure LTE before it started to deteriorate.

FFS - not even peak time yet:

For comparison, this was this morning around 6:45 (didn't let it finish as I don't want to waste data):

This done using my MTN contract sim at 1:37pm:

Same router, same tower, same server. As long as I am still paying for a service that I am not getting, I will bring the issues to AH's attention. Who knows - maybe they will do an immediate cancellation so that we can go our separate ways.

And now back on AH MTN FLTE at 1:44pm:

I realised the MTN LTE is not going to work for me. It is super fast for local uploads and downloads. But it is flippen slow trying to upload and download files to NZ servers or anything outside of SA.
Even my 0.500 Mbps telkom line upload and download faster.

Maybe it is me, I don't know. Can't to speedtests now as my data is basically finished.

For example, been trying to download from here: http://www.pdfill.com/download.html , Direct Link to the File: http://www.plotsoft.com/download/PDFill_FREE_PDF_Editor_Basic.msi

23.2 MB file and it going absolutely nowhere.

Telkom ADSL it downloads fine, slow, but consistent as usual.

Rubbish.

Not just you. Tried to download it - not even getting 1 mbps. Estimated time of 45 minutes to download. It is crazy ridiculous.

EDIT: Nearly instant using my MTN contract sim.

See updated post above. Those are local servers. Pffftt...

Afrihost/MTN. You are a disappointment. If it us a user error, I apologise. But looks like I am not the only one. What a waist of money. Now I am going to have to pay another R1 000 for the router. So that is R2000 on a service that is unusable.

Edit: Second Speedtest (wasting data here) .

Speeds are back to normal. Looks like it fluctuate massively.

Connection on Single this time:

Yeah, something is not right. Hopefully they sort it out.
Here's mine for comparison:
