Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

i think i had to top up almost 4 times for my mothers 100gig package..

Ye top ups are no joke - dont get me wrong my LTE is amazing, no issues whatsoever, but the data top ups really kill me, especially now during lockdown.

Having to spend almost 2x my normal monthly costs purely for 75GB of LTE data - not worth.

In a somewhat strange way, it makes me miss my 10MB ADSL uncapped line - lol - the stress of LTE data is giving me greys

I wish it was affordable.. i wish we could get 200gig + 200 package for like R600 a month. this would be magical.

Yea, i miss having our ADSL line too, when i still lived there..

Just did my research - how is it possible that every ISP offers this except for Afrihost (even the bad ones like telkom)

I mean even their sister company offers it. (Axxcess)

@AfriGuy @AfriFella (help a guy out here lol) I really need that 220GB xD

It just does not make sense - If i had to try mimic that package based on top ups, I would be paying R450 instead of R200 more and i refuse to believe your upstream provider would be like "NO WAY clients want more and want to pay more? How rude"
(attached)

I filed a complaint against Afrihost at the ISPA for constantly blaming the provider [Rain] when I report a fault. ISPA said ISP's are not allowed to pass on blame as I effectively have an agreement with Afrihost to provide a service, not the provider.

I was then contacted by a very helpful Afrihost rep from their "Critical Care Crew", who helped me move from Rain fixed to MTN Fixed LTE.
I asked him about bigger packages, as I really want to have more Data.
Said there's no way they can give me bigger packages on MTN, except by using all my data first and other than topping up.

On the Rain Fixed LTE, I got 220 + 220 ( 6pm to 11pm) + rollover for R1350.
I also missed a month early last year, as I weren't home, so a lot of data rolled over, leaving me with basically 220 + 220 + ±200 almost every month the last few months.
I don't use a lot of data, but having a lot of data, gives me peace of mind that I won't get cut off before the end of the month and won't leave me feeling guilty every time I load a YouTube video.

I now pay R750/m for 150+150+rollover, so sure, I'm 'saving', but I was willing to pay more just for peace of mind that I won't have to feel guilty for loading a YouTube video...

I really do hope they make LTE more flexible, data is not what it used to be and should change with the times.

Purely day to day things (even stopped using netflix this month) does not carry through.

Agreed, also they need to be more price sensitive for all.. i dont see how 150gig cap should be R750 above a month.. its crazy..

I was hoping that Afrihost/MTN would temporarily increase the bundle sizes due to all the free spectrum that has been allocated to MTN during this period.

Hi, Is Afrihost planning on offering 200+200 G MTN LTE packages soon. There are a few ISP's which are offering that. The max offering from Afrihost is currently 150G
This has been a question on everyone's mind and I can assure you, it's something we are looking into. It isn't easy however as these prices were negotiated at a good cost for our clients.

So last month I was uncertain of where I would be for the rest of lockdown, so I downgraded from 60gb+60gb to 30gb+30gb before the 20th (which is the latest you can make changes). So as the news made it clear that the lockdown would be continuing, I decided to cancel the downgrade on the 25th-ish. The system said all is well.

Jump to today, where I find that I now have both the 60gb+60gb AND the 30gb+30gb on my account???
Is it possible that the Afrihost system can be so trash? Or am I just an idiot who didn't get to page 60400 of the terms and conditions?

Knowing them, they will probably say "Eish we already bought the Data from MTN sorry there hey". Really praying that it wont be the case

But to add to what i said above, some places require a certain LTE cat router. like afrihost MTN need cat6 routers..

The router is cat 6 i orderd the 30 + 30 sim only going to give it a shot in my router. I also read somewhere that they said the lte would work on cat6 or higher anyone else tried the fixed sim in a cat 6 router other than the prescribed ones?

Fixed LTE Sim cards are limited to Specific Device like your ZTE's or Huawei Router.

Anyone else getting really bad connectivity on their Afrihost Fixed LTE MTN package lately? It starts at 5pm every night and comes right at about 8am the next morning, fine for the day, then starts again at 5pm.
