Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Update:

I must admit although the painful order/activation process is/was not something I/many of us it should be expected to endure as clients...and must definitely be improved and expedited the speeds (10-20x faster) I am getting are remarkable considering my previous Fixed LTE with Rain I've had for over 18 months...

A 600Mb Adobe RAW update took less than a minute ...with Rain it would have taken <yawn>

Here's hoping these speeds remain consistent.

That is awesome.

That is awesome.

Cheers, have you not managed to reproduce the initial speeds you obtained yesterday with your MTN sim with/without using the band tool?
Surely it must be faster than Rain?

Only twice and then it goes down to under 1mb again. There must be something up with the tower because Rain is being pretty consistent now, so I’m sure it’s not my router.

Received my router (B525) and sim Tuesday(14th)...it has been more than a week with numerous calls and chats and still, nothing. "Profile invalid" error - APN has been set to ws.axxess.fwa. Logged a ticket last night and had a copy paste reply of the notification they had on their website two days ago.

When does it get to the point where I can rather just cancel the service without a cancellation fee? (They are welcome to their router)

Always had fantastic service from Axxess, but this is dropping the ball a little too much.

Here you go:

RSRQ:-9dB
RSRP:-88dBm
SINR:2dB

Hi only just seen your results for some reason...apologies.

Your stats look similar to mine

Here are mine:
RSRQ:-3dB
RSRP:-85dBm
SINR:16dB

except for SNR ( signal to noise ratio)

For comparison have a look at this

Very impressive!!

I've just canceled mine; it's really not worth wasting more time on it, and Axxess is not interested either.
Rain on 2600Mhz seems to be okay and I'll wait & see what happens on Black Friday.

I have the same problem. MTN is not provisioning the service to Axxess, so there is no live connection. It's not the APN it's the activation of the service from MTN's side. I think the problem started when Axxess offered pro-rata data for the first month for free. I suspect that MTN probably doesn't agree with this policy so no activation's are being done. The problem is that Axxess is not communicating to subscribers on how and when this is going to be resolved.

I see Axxess has put up a notice:
"We are currently experiencing delays in provisioning of new MTN Fixed LTE sim cards. MTN have not provided an ETR at this time, we will provide further updates as they become available. "
Yep, same here, 6th day still no service but I've been invoice for next months service already

Pretty ridiculous, and they're of course not responding to my emails.

That too. I'm with MTN and lose LTE every time there is a power cut.
It happens in my area, when the power goes off the first thing to go is the data service. I guess this is done to reduce power consumption on the tower backup batteries while keeping the cellphone network alive for customers/emergencies.

I was charged pro-rated for November though, and I still have to pay for December.

OK finally I am connected!

After @AfriMan (thanks for your help in getting things rolling  ) got back to me to confirm I was now provisioned my router then showed a 5 bar signal but status was showing as disconnected ( as others had mentioned)

Playing around with the settings ( disabling both data roaming and auto select network - which enabled works with my Rain Fixed LTE sim by the way) it then magically connected.

Impressive speeds...far,far better (x 10) than Rain ever attained in last 18 months I have been with them.

Thanks for the speed update - looks amazing!

Ok so My device got the green light, Got very nice speeds of about 20mb up/down . BUT I cannot run anything "online-game" related. Tested on all my games and they just lag to the point that some even crash. Is there a setting I'm missing?

That's very weird. Your data is unshaped, so nothing should be firewalled or blocked. If you haven't solved this, please PM me so I can arrange a call with one of our technical experts.

OK, seems we'll be making a West Coast trip with the new MTN fixed LTE router and SIM next Friday. I hope we have a no hassles setup that side. We really need reliable fast internet at the holiday house and I doubt rain will ever bother with Dwarskersbos. So far they have Atlantis and Malmesbury but not even Vredenburg.

Just remember that the service is locked to a tower. So if you have already activated it one location, we will need to request that MTN unlock it and re-activate in the new location. Best to start chatting to us around this so we can make it as seamless as possible.

I was really hoping that MTN would be able to deliver the best Fixed LTE service in SA ... Hopefully all of the issues can be resolved since the few remaining alternatives are very unappealing.

At present I really do believe the service is excellent - based on the speeds posted here and by our staff testers.

Hi
This is in response to ticket: Re: Cancellation of service, created on 2019-11-24 09:19:02

Good day
As seen your service 30GB + 30GB MTN LTE Combo has been set to be cancelled, however it is cancelled for the end of December as a full calendar month notice needs to be given.

Shanee Govender

Woohoo! I get to pay for the privilege and frustration of dealing with these people, and the service they're not able to deliver. :D

What is the consensus, does it matter if I get the MTN package through Afrihost, Axxess, Supersonic or any other provider?
Yes, if there is an issue with Axxess you'll be pulling out your hair. I don't know Supersonic, but Afrihosts' service is usually okay.

OK, already I see Afrihost and Axxess discount their offering by R50 a month if you don't take the router. Supersonic don't.
Also Supersonic are the only ones providing the B612 modem - the others give you a B525
Please stay away from Supersonic, billing issues GALORE!
