Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Would be great to know the primary tower you are locked to and also the secondary tower. In my situation I am exactly between 2 towers and signal changes based on direction wind blows. Thus i've been forced to use external directional antenna to lock to one tower so as not to get blocked. Would be great to not have to constantly worry its going to switch to another tower and get blocked.

According to AH T&C:

MTN FIXED WIRELESS SERVICES, ONCE ACTIVATED, WILL BE LIMITED TO LOCATIONS WITHIN COVERAGE OF THE CLOSEST ACTIVE TOWER WHICH IS PURPOSED FOR FIXED LTE SERVICE.CLIENTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THEIR DATA OUTSIDE OF THEIR FIXED LOCATION (WITHIN REASONABLE DISTANCE OF THE ACTIVATION AREA).

Would be good to know what is a reasonable distance?

I doubt that there are Fixed LTE towers that will conflict in that manner - MTN would have certainly picked this up in their testing.

Yes the problem is that the one is a fixed and the other not.

The Fixed towers shouldn't be influenced by towers broadcasting regular mobile service. From what I understand, these are separate network infrastructures.

So I'm just confirming this

I now have 7 sites running on Afrihost Fixed LTE with no fixed LTE coverage.

According to coverage maps there's only 4G with no fixed LTE nearby.

Although the speeds are not as great as Fixed LTE but its still good.

So just use an address within fixed lte coverage to get past the initial process of signing up for FLTE. Then just courier it to your real address.

Anyway. Good luck all ISP's not disclosing this. We know you want to keep your good name for top speeds.
But we, the consumer wants cheaper data

P.s

Worst case scenario if it doesn't work you can cancel your month to month package. Just choose sim only and get or borrow an approved router from someone.

This does not seem to be correct. It has definitely connected to a neighbouring tower that is not fixed LTE enabled based on the map. Also the infrastructure is exactly the same. Same tower ID, same sector antenna ID.

Are the routers locked?
Or can I use my RAIN sim in it as well?

I woke up this morning to no internet connectivity, when I login to the router everything looks fine besides the following in the attachment , "status: irregular"

Please someone advise, no idea what to do

Not sure how that would work, it could be network kit that is assigned to existing towers, but my understanding is that the two don't affect each other - hence the device restrictions, etc.

We definitely can't recommend this. While it may work in some occasions, we can't guarantee stability or performance outside the coverage zone. We don't want to unnecessarily frustrate clients who we don't think will have a good experience, and similarly flood our support channels with calls from clients having a poor experience.

Reaching day 5 with no internet. Only getting auto responses to reset device and change apn. I did not ask to change to mtn. I pay afrihost and they provide internet. I have referred 6 people to afrihost and I will make sure to help all 6 off them cancel the service as i have clearly made a mistake. Waiting for a reply on this post in the following format: "Hi we are sorry to hear about your problem. We value our customers above all else. Please dm us and provide your apn settings so we can pretend to be assisting you while you lose income"

We definitely do want to try to assist you - not helping out clients is definitely not a winning strategy :( I am truly sorry that we haven't helped up to now.

With MTN, you have to ensure that you are using the SIM in an eligible device and that it's being used at the location it was delivered to.

I know you are frustrated and feel it may be insincere, but I promse that if you PM me I will do my absolute best to help you get online.

Sounds like there was a session holding up the connection. Loadshedding could be causing issues like this :(

@AfriMan or anyone

Ever since the migration, I am unable to connect to the internet via the MTN (pure LTE) sim card in my Huawei B618 modem. This only came to my attention after the 20Gig on the CellC sim card finished.

See demo: https://photos.app.goo.gl/2CNwMhHruzXmJtst9

On the Afrihost website, it states that I have coverage but dashboard states the opposite.

This is very disappointing and an inconvenience to say the least.

I'm really sorry about the poor experience so far.

Can I just check that you are connecting at the location where the device was delivered and you coverage check was done?
