Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Either more people started streaming or it's throttled .. before they had that outage couple weeks ago it was stable even during peak hours.
I get massive speed decreases in the evening/early part of the night as well. I always thought it was just tower congestion or similar because of peak time, maybe it's not, interesting.

You guys are lucky. I sit with a 400gb MTN LTE package from Afrihost that struggles to even run a fscking speedtest. And i only got it at the beginning of the month. Must cancel and try the telkom one. Fsck

yes, that's what I suspect also .. but they had an outage a while back if you recall. Since then it has been like this. Before that it was normal. I noticed it cause I game and it has been ridiculous the past few weeks. So that's why I suspect if they are throttling Afrihost users now during early evening/ night hours

Hi W@P, I am sorry that you've been having issues. Have you tried changing the connection mode to 4G Only ?

From 10am 13-03-2022 No Signal, No Internet .. Reboot router not helping.
Last known working Cell ID: 2419712

Please Help.

YouTube has been screeching to a basically unwatchable slow speed around 3:30pm to around 8:30pm. Almost every day.
This never happened on ADSL (10mbps capped), from which I transferred to Pure LTE (MTN 90+90), about a month and a half ago (telkom/line problems). Now, endless buffering, even on 240p and lower video quality.
Other streaming services work fine (I tested 480p on Twitch).
Speed tests look fine (speedtest.mybroadband.co.za and speedtest.net); 70-80mbps+ down (though around 15mbps down on a comcast speedtest server in San Fransisco, US - changed server on speedtest.net).
Resetting the router changes nothing.

I noticed on the Afrihost network status page (https://www.afrihost.com/site/network_status) > under the General section, that since yesterday (14 March 2022, 17:32) they've been aware of a "Youtube Degraded Service" problem that is being investigated..

Is this problem just me, or LTE related, or what? Is it really youtube server-side? - again, it only happened on LTE.. I could use my leftover DSL again towards the end, and still didn't happen on DSL (since then disabled, so no more tests). I've also seen others on this thread complain about youtube speed over the last few weeks and months too. Apparently ever since some MTN problem a few months ago.. has that been resolved?

I live in Sunnyside, Pretoria. Central MTN coverage. Densely populated.
Q: Youtube speed and everything else is great rest of the day.. if it's just local conjestion, then why's twitch streaming and speedtest fine? If it's just Youtube, then why didn't it happen on DSL?

I saw some other threads from Afrihost people on Fibre also complaining about Youtube

Most or many YT vids (apart from music) are downloadable to us in SA from within their app, - you may or may not know ?

A temporary fix for you to consider, while streaming is a problem.

Test checked one vid using MTN via Afrihost (Air Mobile) a short while ago, and it downloaded at a respectable 16 Mbps approx.

@AfriNatic - for the invoice generated 2 days ago, if I try opting to pay for it early, system (in the app) just states all invoices up to date.

Would like to settle this one before month end for an isolated reason, so will it give the option to do so within next few days, before 1st April ?

Thanks.

Hi,

You can make an advanced payment for the same amount if you wish to pay now. That can be done via EFt or card payment in ClientZone. Card payment in CZ is the best option as it reflects immediatly.

Thanks, was only available by logging in online & making way to :

"Make an Additional Account Payment

Credit your account by making an additional payment"

If I check statement transactions to 1st April now, I see that apart from the original invoice charge 2 days ago (now dated the 1st April), the system's generated a "Future Payment Request" & "Future Payment Credit Note" - for 28th March, the date I elected for payment to go through - of same amounts (effectively contra'ing each other out), so it leaves a debit balance on the 1st April.

To your knowledge, will these things work each other out once the payment is made on the 28th so by the 2nd April the account will be NIL outstanding & system reflecting all invoices paid for ?

..... or should I check directly with your accounts department ?

Yes so if you make an additional payment the money gets added to the your afrihost account as a credit. The credit is automatically used to settle any balances due. If the credit is the equal or more than the balance due there will be no debit on the 1st. If you pay less than the due amount the remaining balance will still be debited on the 1st.

You can confirm this by pulling an account history in ClientZone.

Thanks again.

Will take a look on the 29th March and again on the 2nd April to see how it's all reflecting in the account.

Btw, the credit amount = exact amount due, as I want it to be 0.00 due / credit again, after all's said & done early in April.
