YouTube has been screeching to a basically
unwatchable slow speed around 3:30pm to around 8:30pm. Almost every day.
This never happened on ADSL (10mbps capped), from which I transferred to Pure LTE (MTN 90+90), about a month and a half ago (telkom/line problems). Now, endless buffering, even on
240p and lower video quality.
Other streaming services work fine (I tested 480p on
Twitch).
Speed tests look fine (speedtest.mybroadband.co.za and speedtest.net); 70-80mbps+ down (though around 15mbps down on a comcast speedtest server in San Fransisco, US - changed server on speedtest.net).
Resetting the router changes nothing.
I noticed on the Afrihost network status page (
https://www.afrihost.com/site/network_status) > under the
General section, that since yesterday (14 March 2022, 17:32) they've been aware of a "
Youtube Degraded Service" problem that is being investigated..
Is this problem just me, or LTE related, or what? Is it really youtube server-side? - again, it only happened on LTE.. I could use my leftover DSL again towards the end, and still didn't happen on DSL (since then disabled, so no more tests). I've also seen others on this thread complain about youtube speed over the last few weeks and months too. Apparently ever since some MTN problem a few months ago.. has
that been resolved?
I live in Sunnyside, Pretoria. Central MTN coverage. Densely populated.
Q: Youtube speed and everything else is great rest of the day.. if it's just local conjestion, then why's twitch streaming and speedtest fine? If it's just Youtube, then why didn't it happen on DSL?
