Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Hi,

Yes you can. On the day of the move or when you will take it to the new address please switch it off. Make contact with us via whatsapp, email, call back or here on mybroadband to update the address. Wait for 2 hours and then switch it on at the new address. You should be sorted now.

If it does get blocked we can request the unblock for you.
Good evening, this also happened to me. An agent helped me earlier today yet it has been well over 2 hours. Is it possible to get some assistance?

Morning,

Sorry for the late reply.

Please send me a dm so I can assist with the update for you.

Hi,

The trace route is looking okay for now. Hop 2,3 and 4 are switches on the MTN network that doesn't respond to ping requests so those are normal.

If you see increased latency on hope 5 it means that is how we receive the traffic in JHB and could indicate an issue with the tower.

From this connection it shows as you say quite a delay.

I don't ever remember it being this terrible. This is during the day even, at night its worse.

I won't even bother doing a ping, its that bad and times out.

What options do I have ?

THis looks like tower congestion.

We start off by logging tickets with MTN coverage to see what the feedback is.

Finding PE data traffic going to or through JHB servers today (predominantly) - did a number of Telkom LTE speedtests earlier ....

.... and found that to be the case in most instances, so checked one with Afrihost / Air Mobile fixed LTE (below), and found it to be the same, which is rare.

Main difference is to JHB, (in all those cases) it's about 20 ms higher latency compared to when traffic goes via CPT.

Why all of a sudden, when CPT is always a better choice (from PE) ?

MTN /Afrihost's Air Mobile latency even worse (double the ms) than yesterday, as well as double Telkom's from yesterday.

Hi,

There is a major NLD between PE and CPT down still.

Hi,

Had seen that in the fibre threads, but didn't know it also affected LTE.

Is that because (Frogfoot) fibre cable is fed to the towers ?

I am also curious about which fibre company feeds their towers.
One thing is for sure tho, FrogFoot and MTN share the same NLD between CPT and PE, whenever it goes down I see the increased latency begin at the exact same time on both of my smokeping graphs.

MTN has their own but they also source transit from other providers. DFA being the biggest probably.

If a DFA route is down between 2 towns or cities everyone that buy transit from them.

It's been > 48 hours and my MTN Fixed LTE is still not active. Every Afrihost agent (and I've spoken to a few the last 2 days) has different "advise" how to get it registered on the network. One told me to put the SIM card in my phone and call MTN. Another wants me to wait until the end of today and then it should be registered. I guess because it's Friday and somehow things will be different this time?

Why does it have to be this hard? Does anyone have any ideas before I return this garbage for a refund?

Did you check if your APN settings are correct? Did any of the agents check it with you?

Yes, multiple times.

Hi,

Sorry for the issues you are experiencing.

Did you manage to put the simcard in a phone or change the router network mode to Auto so it can register on 3G first to activate.

Sometimes when clients force 4G only mode the simcard doesn't activate because it fails to register on the MTN network.

If that fails can you please send me a pm with your email address so I can have a look for you?
