Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Hi @Afrigirl , I am in rural Robertson, where I currently use MTN LTE data via a Mikrotik SXT LTE6 external router.

Alternatively I managed to get a Supersonic F LTE package with an Archer MR600 to trial, but the service is erratic and their customer service is so poor that I've cancelled it, and am going back to normal LTE data.

I would like to use an Afrihost FLTE product, as I am a mobile customer, but the issue I have is that our farm location doesnt allow me to get past the first step in ordering the product, as it says there's no coverage. Which is not the case. Is there some way I can get past this and at least get a SIM which I can use in the MR600, which has the Afrihost APN set up?

And then finally, is the Mikrotik useable with Afrihost FLTE, as it has a better antenna for my rural application...

Look forward to your reply
Ian George

Hi.
We apologise for the slow speeds experienced last night.
How is the connection now?

@AfriNatic

The TP-Link NX510v 5G Fixed Wireless Router on 5G contract:

1. Is it locked to Afrihost, or can any sim card be used in the router?
2. Can it be reset to default TP-link settings?

Thanks

Hi.

Any SIM card can be used on the router.
Yes, you can reset to TP-link settings. You will need to switch off TR-069 to avoid the Afrihost Auto config being pushed after reset.

Thanks for the reply.
Is TR-069 a software setting, accessible via the web login?

Earlier I couldn't even start a speedtest.

Now it is crawling, but I was able to do a speedtest.

Just switch to Telkom , MTN is never going to fix these issues , had high latency and packet loss at odd times

Afrihost tired their best but the issues lie with MTN

You read about the leaked info about MTN new AI algorithm that starts throttling people.....and Afrigirl admitted on mybb that it over rides their own FUP policies? Not sure if related...but it seems very underhanded to me.

Hi everyone.

I have Afrihost Pure LTE Capped 400+400 and a Huawei B618s-65d router in the Gonubie area.

Lately the router constantly gets handed off to a cell with very poor performance and it never recovers.

Good cell (works great):
  • PCI 99, CELL_ID 5384717
  • RSRP −71 dBm, RSRQ −6 dB, SINR 14 dB
  • Performance is excellent (>100 Mbps down).

Problem cell (very poor performance):
  • PCI 267, CELL_ID 92223
  • RSRP −104 dBm, RSRQ −10 dB, SINR −1 dB
  • When the router hands over to this cell, throughput collapses (<10 Mbps down) and does not recover unless I reboot.

If I lock the router to B1, it stays on PCI 99 and is stable, but only half the speed, ~70Mbps (no carrier aggregation).
If I enable B3, it consistently swaps to PCI 267 after about 5 minutes and performance drops off a cliff.

It seems something is wrong with PCI 267, but the network is forcing router onto it despite poor SINR. Once on 267 it cannot hand off back to anything else.

What’s my best course of action to report this so it has the best chance of being resolved?

Not sure what to do.

Any advice welcome.

I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that your router model is the 65d and not the 22d. The 65d is best for Telkom bands. The 22d is best for MTN and Vodacom.
